I haven't read the book or watched the movie, but from what I've read about the character it doesn't seem offensive in and of itself. I actually think it's a neat idea and could actually help trans people. A trans character who is driven to be an utterly insane murderer because of their fucked up life due to repression can help to show just how serious GID is and how it's important to get proper treatment just like any other medical disorder. That said, I worry normies won't be smart enough to interpret it that way and instead just have the kneejerk reaction of tranny = dangerous pervert.
