Depends a lot on your meds. I know for spiro at least you can straight up die if you cut cold turkey. For drugs like cypro though, where AAs are their primary effect, it's probably much safer.

You're right though, the risk of having to stop aren't a reason to not take them unless you're not really trans or you're extremely poor or something.

Like I said, I don't know much about Riley, and also my perspective as a relatively young, cis, American lesbian affects my perspective. You're right about 'dyke stuff' being superficial, while 'being trans' and physical transition are two separate and significant things.

I try my best to understand dysphoria and how it affects people, but also recognize that I probably never will.

Most of the trans people I know are young (<25) like me. So they're in various stages of transition, both physical and social. Some of them are able to afford hormones and surgery (with insurance) but even people with supportive parents have not done anything like FFS, hair removal, or professional voice training. Part of this might be because, again, they're pretty young and don't 'need' to.

I'm not sure if Riley has a condition, but the possibility of it was why I mentioned someone stopping hormones. I know trans people wouldn't want to stop taking their hormones, but there are situations where people cannot afford them legally/regularly because of a lack of insurance coverage. Some places restrict access to hormones for people until they've gone through a certain period of therapy, and then require them to continue therapy and be 'monitored' while they take their medication, right? I feel like if there were so many hoops to jump through it might not feel worth it.

I just dislike bullying framed as 'criticism' which is why I was quick to defend someone I know nothing about. But I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to specific things I said, and explaining them, even though you could have just as easily written me off as a know-nothing ignoramus. I really wish more people on this board were like you!
