I won't sugarcoat it, the recovery is pretty bad.
It's fairly accurate to say that the worst of the pain is in the first 2 weeks, there's also quite bad swelling and a lot of blood. By about 2 months I was able to return to school without much issue but it would have been pushing it to do it earlier.

As for the swelling and blood: the swelling takes 6 months to a year to go down entirely, and the incisions took about 3 months to fully close.
