These are just my informal impressions from reading comments online. If anything, transwomen are tilted towards liking men more often than women, but they still seem to have more variation than transmen.

Then I read a new science thing the other day

So if I had to guess, men seem to be more likely to be only attracted to one gender, while women are more likely to be attracted to both. Since FtMs have a masculine brain which is independent from their sexual orientation, they often end up attracted to women (they're actually predominately straight statistically).

MtFs seem to go the other way in that they are more likely to be attracted to either of the two or both, so their statistics seem a bit more evenly split. This is likely due to the female brain's neurology.

That would just be my hypothesis based on these two studies I read.

If there is any merit to what you say, it might be good to consider the complexity of the genetics that may influence sexuality.

For example in drosophila there is an alternatively spliced gene that can be expressed in two different ways; males are supposed to get one form, females the other. The whole gene is the same regardless of who gets it, just the expression differs, because parts of the gene are "skipped" over depending on what form you're making.

The male form is vital for certain mating behaviors necessary to court females, and without it they end up trying to mate with other males and females without discrimination.

The female form does nothing, to my knowledge. But, females who get the male form exhibit male sex behaviors and try to court other females.

Applying that sort of mess to a more complex organism like humans, you might encounter scenarios where those who were born male may end up affected differently than those who were born female.

So, it doesn't necessarily have to do with fetishes. It could hypothetically be due to different mechanisms controlling specific cases of gender dysphoria, which might fit into different categories simply by nature of the person being born male- or female-bodied. This in turn could be due to expression of particular sex hormones; maybe a born-male who expresses testosterone simply lacks the proper receptors for it, maybe picking up some feminine characteristics as a result, but ultimately arriving to the conclusion that maybe they're transgender in a way that a born-female wouldn't experience, because their expression of testosterone is different, let alone things like receptors.

But I'm not a sex biologist so maybe go look up some research
