Gay voice is just a voice that is stereotypically associated with being gay. Having it doesn't mean you're gay, and being gay doesn't mean you have it. Despite this, people still associate gay voice with being gay. So in that sense it's a real thing

Being soft spoken is a part of it but it's also largely about the intonation, but I don't really know how to describe the intonation specifically
