Societies go through developmental stages. Transplanting the features of one stage to a country in an earlier stage will get different results than expected.

I'm all for it. I don't really give a shit about preserving barbaric cultural practices (homophobia, cutting women's hands off if they accidentally show some ankle when they're walking around in their tarps, forceful mutilation of the genitals of children regardless of sex...). Really, it just makes things better for me because eliminating homophobia in the third world opens up so many interesting tourism opportunities. I've always wanted to see Victoria Falls (Make Zimbabwe Rhodesia Again!), old town Timbuktu, the pyramids at Giza, the Medina of Tunis... The way it is now, even if I had the money to go see all those cool things, the local savages would make it absolute fucking hell. Fucking morons in Africa and the Middle East think that modernizing and acting like civilized people is going to destroy their culture, but you can still be decent, modern humans without abandoning your culture. Look at the Japs. Look at the Argentines. Look at the nicer parts of Thailand and South Africa.
