I "tested the waters" with my parents and kind of implied I was gay. On the plus side they stopped pressuring me about grandkids after that. It was an interested segue though. And I respect this opinion. I felt the need to let my parents know. I came out to Dad when I started seeing a therapist. There was also other shit on my mind that I brought up with him first and it was nice to get it all off my chest.

I came out to Mom when I had my therapist's letter to my doctor and let her read that, then when she didn't quite get it ("what's hrt?" "what does it mean 'still identify male' for now?") I did what I did with Dad and showed her timelines of others who did hrt in their 20's and turned out fine.

Because that's the thing about parents, they want to make sure their kids are going to be fine. They want to know you have a future. Especially if you're going to "make it harder on yourself" by transitioning. I think part of when parents get angry at kids coming out is they fear you're going to amount to nothing and the wonderful child they tried to raise (or mold after themselves) is going to have an empty life without kids and being a social outcast and raising you was kind of a waste of time for you and them. Even religious parents are pissed because it means you're going to hell to them.

Yeah, I was actually all set to repress solely based on not having any sort of conscious attraction to guys when I was still questioning. This kind of stuff can really fuck someone up when they're in the process of figuring themselves out.

She's also said she doesn't want a female president because the leader should be a man. Very old fashion views. I think she just never questioned what people told her growing up in the south.

She's also insistent that the races as far as interracial marriage "should stay with their own kind" because "it would be easier".
