Something weird happened on my tinder, I was talking to this super hot girl on December 7th, she was nice and all, but we didn't have much in common so after our conversation tapered off. Anons I'm a bit worried about my head. I've had pretty shit migraines for about four years now, with daily headaches of varying intensity added for good measure.
Which means I'm on a lot of pills, from painkillers to SSRIs. Thing is, lately I feel like my mind is getting...weaker somehow. Like sometimes I feel like I'm not really there, or have to think hard to remember what I was doing an hour ago.
I have no problem remembering/reciting poetry I've read long ago though, so I guess my longterm memory is fine?
I'm still getting worried about this, it feels like I'm slowly disassociating from my own mind. Halp.

I think you should make an appointment with a neurologist, stat. You don't want to fuck around when it comes to your cognitive abilities, you gotta stay on top of your brain's health anon! In the meantime, and as hippie-dippie as this sounds there are actually studies on its effectiveness, you may benefit from practicing mindful meditation and/or mindfulness in general. But chronic migraines + heavily medicated + developing cognitive impairment = get to a doctor asap.
If you're taking SSRIs I assume you have a psychiatrist? Give him/her a call and let them know what's up, see if they want to change up your dosage because of these side effects. If you haven't seen your psychiatrist in a while and you've started new prescription drugs since from another doctor, the issue could be drug interaction in which case you should definitely make a follow up appointment.

That's the thing, I was in the hospital for a few days just a month ago, for my migraines, full checkup, MRT, EEG CT, you name it. And my brain is a-okay apparently.
The SSRIs are in really small dosage as a prophylactic that's supposed to help with the migraines, I don't have a psychiatrist, just a whole bunch of neurologists.

It is a weird feeling when you go to the doctor because something is obviously, persistently wrong and you're told that actually everything is great. Idk about you but I always think oh.... good, I mean. That's good. But also a) what the fuck and b) what now!

The only day to day coping tip I can offer which I hope is helpful is that when I've felt foggy like you described, I would forget what I was doing or kind of lose myself when "transitioning" between goals (ex: finished eating dinner and plan to go to the living room and find my notebook). To avoid this, I found it helpful to repeat "I'm going to find my notebook and review my notes, I'm going to find my notebook and review my notes" as I finished up the last activity (putting away leftovers and washing my hands, for example) and "transitioned" into the next by heading into the living room. Otherwise I could run the risk of doing everything at the speed of 2 mph and getting stuck in my head.

My most important trait over all would be being communicative. I think nothing is healthier for a relationship than openly talking about things that bother one/that one enjoys, if you want to grow as a couple, and to not bury any feelings and ultimately get into fights or break up because you always bottled everything up.

Neurologists unfortunately can't do much if you test normal on a physical exam and EEG other than verify you don't have anything like tumors or an aneurysm. If you have physical and neuro symptoms, then following that confirmation they'll refer you back to the GP, neuropsych, and psychiatrist.

Neuropsychology will do cognitive testing like working memory and various functional intelligences and can further eliminate other diseases as culprits. Their main specialty is things on the ADHD and autism spectrum (and of course management strategies for trauma patients), so if you're an atypical offshoot of that they might identify it. Otherwise if there's something chronically wrong that doesn't seem to respond to treatment elsewhere they will work with you on management and development strategies for things like memory or hand-eye coordination.

I'll tell you one unusual combo that worked for a friend with extremely painful migraine/shaking fits that took a while for the doctors to get -- both his psychiatrist and GP consulted with each other on it -- it was a combo of lorazepam, propanolol, and ibuprofen. Just something to mention.

Another line of attack is atypical bipolar spectrum, even if you've never had mania, since bipolar spectrum includes migraines: in which case starting doses lamotrigine or topirimate are options.Again, this worked for a friend of his with similar problems of painful shaking/migraine fits as well as major depression and neuro symptoms. It didn't cure everything obviously, but it drastically improved most things almost immediately -- 2 weeks of starting doses.

Everyone's different, but for treatment-resistant people psychiatrists (especially younger ones) are more than willing to hear out anecdotes from other people with similar symptoms of the same age-range and class, and these are two cases from SSRI-unresponsive people treated in their mid-20s,

One of the reasons I hate them is the same reason you like them -- they remove the possibility of suspense and speculation. I mean I doubt I would have fallen for the shit pulled in this episode because it's Yoshino, but I like not being sure. Certain types of scenes are really boring if you already know the outcome. Even if the spoilers are really minor, they still affect how I view something, and I don't like that. It can really warp how I perceive a show if I have information before I'm supposed to.
