First of all, I'm not going to judge you for being in the closet because according to you it will derail your education and cause many problems with your family. I did the same thing you did. I waited until after college to be more open.

Second of all, the guy you were chatting with sounded kind of loserish from the way you described him. Trust me, the fact that he dropped out of college is a huge red flag. Maybe find another person that's studious like you?

Third of all, get off Grindr because 95% of people there are looking for casual sex and not a relationship. My best suggestion would be for you to go out and just meet people. This is the most comfortable way you can seek out a relationship while you're still in the closet.
