They can and sometimes do choose to self harm or even kill themselves because of dysphoria. If they're old enough to make that choice, they're old enough to choose hormone therapy.

There is an age restriction of 16, precisely as you want. Kids younger than that are given puberty blockers, not HRT.

In today's age, infertility honestly isn't a big deal for a lot of people. If a teenager decides they probably won't want kids I see nothing wrong with letting them for sterile in exchange with preventing years of self esteem and depression issues from gender dysphoria. If they decide they want kids later they can just adopt.

Please for the love of god just take 5 minutes and look this up. There is no law about when a child can start hormone treatments in the US. Its totally arbitrary depending on the doctor.

Its concerning because its difficult to pinpoint how many kids change their minds about this. I've read that it ranges from 1 out of a hundred to over 50%.

This is too big of a decision and its far too important to let kids make it. At least as far as I can see it.
