Allies can say literally anything. It ultimately won't matter cause LGBT people are gonna end up being a more authoritative source for, at least, personal stories and things of the emotional nature (Anyone can do research into stats so that's irrelevant). Any straight person who decides to form their opinion on LGBT based on what another straight person has said on our behalf isn't too bright so not much lost.

I think some genuinely care but a large portion of them are just virtue signaling and are "allies" so they can say they have a Gay or trans friend

The only person I've ever heard identify as an ally was a bitchy girl at my school. She always loved being in the forefront of lgbt groups and activities despite being cishet and taking miles of black dick.

Overall I'm glad for the support, but most allies are so distant from the lgbt "movement" that they don't have much of a proper understanding of how tragic some stories can get, and as a result their rhetoric is much more warm and fuzzy than a lot of lgbt rhetoric. Thankfully I never had a negatively affective experience with homophobia or biphobia, but every time I see some middle-aged cat lady post that facebook meme that says "I might lose friends for this, but I support lgbt equality", it's like - isn't that cute, some people lost their parents' love you twat.
