They have a right to be upset. A lot of the ones who post here were born just too early to be a young transitioner, and just late enough to be able to transition before 30. But that's often not good enough, because 90% of people get completely wrecked by male puberty by that point. I'm assuming you're young. You would have been absolutely fucked if you were born around 1990 instead of around 1998. This shit turned around insanely fast. For most people born around 1990, their only exposure to "trans women" as a child were the "is it a man?" segments on trash TV. Trans visibility finally started taking off toward the late 2000's and finally kicked into overdrive in the early 2010s, too late for a lot of those people. Most trans people in my generation didn't even know HRT was a thing until they were in college at the earliest. You don't know what to Google if you don't know it exists in the first place. When we were kids/teens, our attempts at Google searching trans shit pulled up hon fetishist websites like Susan's and Laura's Playground.

Shit fucking sucks. I got lucky with bone structure and all that, and after FFS in November I am confident that I will pass completely, but I know most people aren't that lucky. You should count yourself lucky that you were born on the other side of that threshold. If people my age (now 25) were able to scroll through hundreds of transition timelines and easily find DIY information in our teens, a lot of lives wouldn't have been ruined.

How early of a transitioner are you? I think the Reddit trans boards came online sometime around 2010, and you would have been 12 years old. I was already 19.

The point I was trying to make isn't really that all transitions will eventually be pre-pubertal, but that if you were born later, you had a much better chance of being one than someone born earlier. Of course there were early transitioners my age. But this was far, far less common back then than someone of your birth year. Yes, even of your birth-year, pre-pubertal transitions are still rare, but we're talking an entirely different level of "rare" than for my birth year.

i started researching things c. 2010 so when things like reddit and tumblr started popping up, but they didn't have nearly enough of a foothold for me to find them. to make matters worse, i'm ftm and almost all the old resources are geared towards mtfs. i ended up trying to see myself in jennifer diane reitz's writings. one of my first 'holy shit i am trans' moments was on a wikihow article giving passing tips to emo/scene ftms. i came out in 2012 after discovering tumblr and had a phase where i acted trendscum as shit but eventually got out of it
most of my offline friends are a bit younger than me and came out 2015-2016 through tumblr, most of them are also trendscum and are going to ruin everything when they inevitably detransition which is what will ruin the possibility of anyone born 2010 or later transitioning before 18
i also live in australia which has a ridiculous and fucked up transition system, i started blockers at 15 and was one of the very first people in the country to take them -- it's getting better, but again because of detransers will only be better for five years at most

You also have to have accepting and understanding parents, of course.

The difference is that for the first age group, there was no drive to find that information because there were no role models. Someone born in 1998 like that other anon would have been completely aware of the existence of young transitioners in the first place. They would know that young transitioning exists and is possible, which would give them the drive to find the information to do it themselves. These people would have been like 8 years old when Jazz Jennings started going public.
