also, the person in the case study was borderline intellectually disabled/'mentally retarded' ('learning disability' is british for 'intellectual disability', which creates interesting cross-cultural differences when talking about things like dyslexia). sex discordance in an ID population has always been treated more like a mental illness to be cured, mostly due to lack of understanding that ID people are capable of self-determination than anything. borderline ID people are generally allowed to transition these days, though -- i've seen case studies since where people transitioned and they also coincidentally happened to be borderline ID. given a strict iq-based definition says about 10-15% of the population is borderline ID, you'd hope they'd have moved forward with that.
at any rate, i've known many trans people who took neuroleptics and remained trans.
