I think I can guess why. When someone is deprived of something or really wants something but cannot attain it it can become a fetish. But once they get it, it becomes more normal to them and less an object of sexual and nonsexual desire and less of a fetish.

For example before I started transitioning I had a really strong fetish for girl's clothing. I even fapped to pictures of clothing with nobody wearing it. But once I started wearing it myself more often and affirming myself as feminine and stuff it became less sexual to me, and more just makes me happy now, although slightly sexual at times if the clothing is more sexy than typical clothes.
