My dad, his brothers and my grandpa are all near 6 ft. The men on my mom's side are on the shorter side of average, being 5'8" ish. I ended up 5'5".

I started hrt at 18, but by that point acne had already fucked my skin up beyond repair. Plus, even if I had started at 13 my facial structure was still pretty masculine. I wouldn't exactly be pretty, but I would have been in a better position I guess. Kids transitioning was basically unheard of in 2002 though. That's not true at all, there are plenty of trans women who started after puberty ( bulk of puberty usually ends around 21-22) including myself who pass well. I don't have very masculine bone structure but I don't have very petite feminine bone structure either and I pass well and can wear most types of clothing.
