My personal opinion:

I don't like the rape, bullying, blackmailing, torturing, gangbanging and killing of one of the characters (or simply when both characters are not on equal footing). This is probably the type of yaoi I dislike the most. That and shota.

Most of the other types of yaoi are cutsey childish stuff where the characters fall in love really fast and they just try to be cute. I think the characters in these ones are really unrealistic (and I would find it unrealistic if it was a straight couple too). The target audience for this is probably young girls so it makes sense that it wouldn't appeal to me.

Also, it's really stupid when the characters go out of their way to try to convince the reader that they're not gay ("Only for him" trope) or even acknowledge bisexuality.

Another type I've seen is mostly lewd stuff which is fine, but there isn't much of a story to it.

One of the few yaoi manga that I've read and found to be realistic (and remains one of my favorites) is Doushitemo Furetakunai by Yoneda Kou. But I think some people might find it boring.
