If you can't think of good incisive questions to ask him during the date, just pick any random thing he does, or some life decision he made in the past, and ask him what his goal was when he decided to do that. If he can give a clear answer, reply, "interesting..." That's usually enough to make people second-guess themselves. Then decide what your objective is as the date is wrapping up and pursue it with brutal efficiency.
