The simplest answer is, in the past all fags (regardless of which variety) were looked down on by society so banded together to try and make life better for them selves. Nowadays when society isn't so open about it's dislike of fags that need to band together regardless of differences doesn't seem so important which is why kids like you keep asking this inane question.
