The relationship with my brother, who is 3 years my senior, used to be strained. I was given the chance to cut a beautiful 4 inch malachite stalactite (can cost 100s to ~1000 dollars) into cabochons. I used the cabochons to decorate leather books (some stamp and hammer printed. You need physics and chemistry in order to major in geology. If you have enough of a grasp on math to do well in physics and chemistry, you'll do fine. I'm also math adverse. I spent a lot of time in the tutoring center to get through my physics classes. Chemistry is easier, but also requires a good amount of studying and lab reports. The core geology classes are quite fun though.

I took most of my physics and chemistry classes at the local community college then transferred out of state to finish my degree (with a hefty amount of scholarships). I'm currently 10k in debt, so it's not too bad.

Many types. Mostly stone and gem materials with gold and silver spacers if needed. I've done some work with glass, but not much. Even made a few of my own glass beads. Don't know. I haven't made a big purchase in over 5 years. I was used to buying over a $1000 of beads a month. I built up a large stock of excess from projects, but that is running low now. I really need to find a good bead source again. At my peak, my excess was of the order of a cubic meter of beads.
