It's a stupid comic because majority of the time they are mindless zombies that rush forward with melee weapons without thoughts of self preservation and keep running towards you even though they have lost limbs due to your gun fire but some times you have patient ones that are snipers or when the plot demands it, super clever ones that trick people via radio, wearing uniforms or laying other traps.

They all are clearly marked and the only suspense happens when some people slowly turn or the whole BS psych thriller is the people who give into their dark desires without being crossed.

Basically despite all the initial horror and edginess, they are basically no worse than what Isis and the cartels are doing now, or if you feel real world examples pop your bubble, then they are basically a mix of Khorne and Slannesh Chaos Cultist from Warhammer 40k.

Try to survive until you die. Not much else you could do. Increase your chances by joining well armed sustainable communities but then you'll inevitably run into some sort of boring Walking Dead-esque dictator who will fuck your wife and take all the food you harvest. Alternatively you can become the dictator and then live a paranoid stress filled life full of deceit and panic as you try to keep a community of strangers together without it imploding or them killing each other. The best communities to join would probably be either religious/ political extremist who will feel compelled to survive for something more than just the sake of living and large extended families that are used to violence (Mormons to an extent, gangs, organized crime families, Appalachian folk, ECT.). But in the end it comes down to the same things, getting food and killing threats.

You don't even need to get that crazy with it, simply use alot of chlorine or mustard gas against the crossed. They usually don't wear alot of cloths and are very unlikely to use NBC protection. You systemically target areas their in with chemical weapons via artillery, then follow up with armour and finally infantry in protective gear to clear buildings and any that may remain. As long as your base of operations remains secure you should be ok. Now you do run into other risks like other survivors who upon seeing the crossed weakend decided to use the opportunity to take power for their particular group. So then you might end up fighting a conventional war while still trying to fight the infected, this kills the machine.
