Why is this gun impossible to find new except from an auction site. Did something happen where they don't make new ones anymore?

I'm with you, OP. They seem very hard to find. Of course there are many better options practically speaking but it's a gun I've heard most dudes say they'd like to own one day.
>>
>>35170247
Check your offline LGSs, they sometimes have a few Interarms PPK/S floating around.
>>
When I worked in a gun store, we had one. Has a Nagant revolver tier DA pull, was very shocked at how bad it was, and I say this as someone who shoots old S&W DA/SA boat anchors

I just wanna own one. I have 0 intention of making it my EDC or something.
The 380 model is just cause I hate to get it in 22LR

S&W was doing a shitty version of the US contract ones, and got the ixnay put on their production. The scuttlebutt is that Walther is building a factory (I think in Arkansas?). It's taking a while, though. Just get one used at a gun show. The prices have gotten to be pretty reasonable.
>>
>>35170607
Should I wait for the factory? I prefer a new one if I can help it.
What were they retail? I wanna know how much of a ripoff gunwatcher is being.
>>
>>35170753
I started looking and found this out somewhere around Winter of '15, I want to say. I really don't know on the timeline. It feels like they should be going by now but they're not.

I can only speak from experience at a Southern IL gun show (only place I've seen any PPKs for sale as of late). I'm seeing prices between 302 and 375 as most common for the .380, depending on condition, finish, and the like.
>>
>>35170787
Sorry, had a couple whiskeys. Between 320 and 375*
>>
>>35170795
So $900 is def a ripoff then. Thanks!
>>
>>35170829
Jesus Christ. Link the listing. That's fucked up.

Keep in mind, those prices were for used.
>>
>>35170840
I searched around on there. Find some big local gun shows and browse there. Gun shows tend to attract a big crowd of sellers who have a lot of older stuff, and it will give you a good gauge for your area.

For the peanut gallery: No, the ones I was seeing in the mid 300's range were not .22LR, or in shit condition.

Do NOT get a S&W one. They stopped making them for a reason: they have bad problems with cycling and general machining quality. The extended beaver tail was supposed to prevent hammer bite, but just means that the frame cuts into the webbing of your hand instead. It's uncomfortable within 50 rounds and I've bleed within 100.

The PPK was made for .32 ACP. The 380 versions have only even been OK, even under good manufacturers.

Sidenote: it's not as small as it looks. A glock 34 is the same size, lighter, and 9mm

This. I bought a shiny new S&W contract PPK/s. Externally it was pretty but had some sharp edges. Internally it looked like every machined part was cut with a hand chisel and hammer. The trigger components flexed and wobbled on their pins when the trigger was pulled. I never got it to shoot a full magazine without a failure to feed or extract.

Go find a SIG P232 or P230. It does everything the Walther is supposed to but better. Pic related, Japanese police contract overrun P230.
>>

>SIG P232
That does look a lot nicer. TY.

>>35170919

I'm willing to admit I'm wrong, but I could have sworn that Walther USA was building a production facility themselves after the S&W debacle, as I mentioned above. Did I maybe get signals crossed with a different Walther model?
>>
>>35170753
Bought my S&W PPK/S new for $550 from a shop early 2014.

It's the gun equivalent of those re-releases of Star Wars with the added CGI. The gun you ACTUALLY want is fairly collectible.
>>
>>35170935
Please don't buy that. You'd just be justifying a retarded price hike in the market. I never bought one, but a PPK was the first firearm I ever jonesed for, and I still do sometimes. Having gained experience with other guns (and fired a few PPKs), however, they're not worth that, or anywhere NEAR it.
>>
>>35171159
No intention of buying it. The price was way too high. I was curious how much of a rip off it was for bidding on used ones.
>>
>>35170247
It's a shitty gun. It feels really nice, but it's shit.
>>
>>35171119
They're going up in price but you can still snag older used P230s for ok prices. Another good buy are the license made French Manurhin PPs.
>>
>>35171174
Really bad. The worst I've ever seen was PPK's for about 700 or so at the peak of prices during the election.

If you're really dead set on the PPK because of aesthetics, I might recommend looking into the Bersa Thunder. By my understanding, Argentinian factories ended up with Walther production lines during the War. They were nationalized, given to Bersa, and the design was tweaked and altered to make the Thunder. (Somebody correct me if this is a crock of shit) The aesthetics are similar, but they're actually reasonably priced. I carried one for quite a while, and really liked it. It's a comfortable shooter for what it is, as well. That said, be warned. Everybody says that Bersa is VERY hit or miss on build quality. Some Thunders are fantastic, like mine, and some are pieces of shit jam-o-matics. The production quality may have improved recently, I'm not sure. I know they're building popularity.
>>
>>35171174
Depends on what specifically you're looking for. People hate S&W enough that the Interarms tax is very real. Whatever you do, do yourself a goddamn favor and limit yourself to the PPK and not the PPK/S.

For a west german manufactured PPK, prices can easily hit 900+ all day.

I found one of those at an LGS and fingerfucked it. Super ergonomic, great sights and pointed naturally. Could have walked out of it for 350 bucks, but i couldn't justify the purchase. It was too big too pocket carry, but too underpowered and undercapacity to be an IWB gun, and I didn't like the lack of a slide lock.

Traditional Teutonic redcurrent preserve. Helps seal in the flavor.
Some combloc ammo still uses a compote of some sort but it's a lot rarer than it used to be
>>
>>35171304
It has a slide lock, but no external slide release. You have to slingshot the slide. I think it's the perfect size for summer iwb carry. Very light and unobtrusive. $350 is a steal though, especially in good shape.
>>
The PPK was a fairly outdated design and the company and new overlords wanted to go polymer everything. Ppks were alright but had issues and the market has been shifting away from 32acp to 380 for ages.

>>35171224
Bersa Firestorms and then Thunders are decent clones with much lower quality. You aren't finding a Thunder with wood grips and a steel frame but they are more comfortable to shoot and have a smoother trigger. The new Combat is a doublestack if that tickles your taint, still pretty compact and light. There are some lemons floating around but we aren't talking Taurus odds. They do have shitty feed ramps so they choke on hollowpoints the first 250 rounds or until you sand it down. Bersa Ultras are much better quality and p88 clones. Anyway you can buy 3 of the things in 2 calibers for the price of 1 auction ppk so screw them.
>>
I have a S&W made PPKS. It's a good shooter but...

>Sharp edges
>Recoil is worse than an XD 45.
>Shit capacity
>Heavy
>DA pull is hard to be accurate with
>Literally the same length and height as my M&P compact. 1/4" thinner. .380 versus 9. 7+1 versus 12+1 with the ability to use full size back up mags for 17 round reloads.

That said I'll keep mine as it is fun to shoot, quite accurate and looks cool. But 2/10 would not edc.
>>
>>35171484
You enunciated my thoughts on Bersa better than I could. They're good firearms for the price, in my experience. I must have lucked out. Mine had no issue with me feeding several boxes of Critical Defense through it. (Granted, that was after over a year of shooting target ammunition before getting my CCW license)

Good for the price, retard.

I didn't have to sand the feed ramp at all for defense ammunition, and have never heard of this. I don't carry the Bersa anymore, but still respect it as decent.

Let me guess, you're an ass-blasted glockfag.

They're banned from importation: http://weaponsman.com/?p=18983

Smith and Wesson was supposed to make them for Walther, not sure why that never happened

Also if someone can explain to me how handguns without safeties like the VP9 and PPQ can be imported I'd really appreciate it.

The latest iterations were produced and imported directly by Walther, but were discontinued some time mid last year. I got lucky and managed to pick one up as the stock really started drying up. It's .22lr but I don't mind it. Shot the .380 version and heard they were iffy in performance. My local rental range had one for a while, but it was always broken down and unavailable to the point that I think they sold it off as a parts gun.

The .22lr PPK I've heard a lot of good things about it. It's a solid .22 with a steel frame. A nice pocket gun to have in a pinch and perfect for easing in beginner shooters. Got it for $300 and it will probably be a staple in my collection for years to come.
>>
>>35170607
My S&W one really isn't bad at all.

I like the slightly longer tail so you don't get slide bite all the time.

I'm guessing people weren't buying much for their price (instead of modern walther styles like PPS) and for that style just go for a Bersa Thunder idk.
