You don't need to pin a mag adaptor, they make drop in ones:

IMHO, OP go with the hotdog down a hallway magwell. I too have been holding out for an A1 style 9mm upper, but in the meantime I think I'll go with a Rock River Arms A2 style one, then swap over to the A1 upper when I find it.
Looking to build myself a DEA spec 635, which were a little longer than the DOE smg's.
