Is it really necessary to break in a rifle barrel by cleaning it after every round for the first 200 or so? Lots of conflicting opinions out there. Seems to be less crucial on higher end barrels.

that's pretty fucking stupid. i will say this though; if you sight in your rifle with a dirty bore and then clean it afterward, you're zero is going to be off.

The most logical and reasonable answer I have seen to your question is that it depends on the type of rifling.
>>
>>35166121
no.
but you will shoot your best groups when the gun is dirty.
Most comp shooters will clean the gun and then shoot about 10 rnds to dirty the bore.

>first 200
the only time I've heard of cleaning after each round, it's only for like 10-20 shots. And even then it depends on what the manufacturer suggests as a break in

One of my local FFL holders. I looked it up and there are a few articles about it.

No. that's not how it works.

No they did this in the old days because it lapped the bore. Buy a good modern barrel and its unnecessary.
>>

That's called a fouling shot, anon. It only takes two or three.
>>
>>35166159
DPMS for one.
>>
>>35166121
No, it's a waste of time and cleaning supplies.
>>35166159
It's just fuddlore.
>>35166189
Not really. Guns shoot best when clean and dry.
>>
>>35166121
This is a myth spread by shills trying to get you to buy more cleaning products
>>

I've heard the first 20 shots, but never 200. I don't know if there's any truth to it, but I did it fro my first 20. Figure it's not gonna hurt anything if I do it.

Me too. I put a different barrel on my .22 and it's not a big deal so I just did it anyway.
