I think the movie was just a giant wank for the "my hobby is guns" audience. Each time john touches a gun they have to do a close up of the 'super tactical thing you saw on youtube' right before he goes and headshots 3 mindless goons who waddled up to him. Also you can defend the shitty plot by saying "the movie is supposed to be dumb!"

We're not big on Hollywood wankfests here. The gun autism makes these people dissect every last scene about firearms and combat so they will inevitably find something they hate but this series is loaded with it. Central axis lock stance is the only thing that caught on somewhat. Personally "muh dawg" killed the first one for me and I didn't bother with a sequel.

Great movie all around. Wick 1 was enough to inspire a cult like following and the directors honestly never even intended for a second movie, but public outcry was enough for them to do so.

They boiled down what people loved about the movie, and it was simple. Proper hand to hand choreography, realistic gun usage (actually reloading), the hero not being some perfect goody good, and the whole angle of the "under world" of cities and illegal shit. I'm well aware of the pandering to gun nuts the movies are about, but I saw wick 1 in theaters. Then wick 2 and even paid extra for the Dolby Cinema version in theaters. I'll be doing the same for the inevitable Wick 3. Also Dolby, and will also be sporting an erection the entire time once again.

Is Wick 2 better than the first movie? I'd give the first one an enjoyable 6/10, it was okay but completely forgettable and out of your memory 48 hours after viewing. Should I watch John Wick 2?

We wish we could see gun sale trends over time, but we don't get access to sale data. That said, people might've struggled to even ID the P30, so I kind of doubt it did what Dirty Harry did for the S&W Model 29 or what Jurassic Park did for the SPAS-12. Even though these movies jsut thrust the firearm into the popular consciousness.

I think people take the suppressor thing from 2 a bit too on the nose. It's more so supposed to hammer in the idea that there's this secret war/assassin society happening below the level of notice for normal people. Not that it's actually realistic.
