Dig a trench, wide, line the bottom with wooden pallets. This is where your customers will walk, it gives a clear path for idiot customers. Along one side, run half a corrugated pipe and fill it with standing water. Don't get the customers wet, but make sure they can see the water. Put planks of shoring wood along the sides, put barbed wire or a facsimile along the top. Make sure the walls are higher than the patrons can see. Set up smoke generators, a wreck of an old tank to walk under, fake bodies stuck in barbed wire, machine gun sounds, explosion sounds, etc. Have a bin full of clean, disposable rags and a man shouting "GAS, GAS, GAS!" and passing them out at one point. Have employees jumping over the trench or running across planks strung over it. Have some sort of jump scare imitating an explosion and a body getting thrown into the barbed wire. Have someone throw a little dirt on patrons every once in a while, not a shovel full, but make them feel like explosions are kicking dirt at them. Guide them into a bunker and hold them for a minute then make them run through an open field. Have actors getting shot and falling left and right. Have the path cut throuth breached barbed wire and over at least one trench filled with fake bodies. Show them a firing squad killing prisoners. Have bodies covered in lye sitting in an open pit. End with a song and dance of "The Kaiser and I" from All Quiet on the Western Front.
>>
>Guests enter into a small wooden entrance to a trench network in the front yard, complete with duck boarding over nasty stinky standing water and period accurate gas masks that they have to take
>Sort of a shitty little maze, plenty of corpses and rusted/broken equipment lying around, craters from shell impacts beyond
>Fog machines keep an evil yellow haze floating over the whole area, settled in the trenches and below the level of the house proper
>Yelling and screaming and dying in multiple languages
>Occasional cut to the beating of a heart stopping over a death rattle
>Rock-concert speakers for occasional artillery barrages that shake the foundations, pressurized air system that blows flecks of dirt everywhere
>When they get to the house proper, all the windows are out and there's an empty MG nest on the porch
>The door gapes ominously, the walls supporting to it chewed up by MG and rifle fire
>Front rooms of the house are what's left of a field hospital, occasional ghostly moans over the speakers
>Most of the (Covered) corpses in the beds are dummies, one or two are actors that will grab you if you get too close while death gurgling
>Potentially a bloodstained nurse that assails you asking if you've brought the medicine
>Quiet, weeping babbling that starts to pick up as you move deeper into the house, through small barracks rooms that were once sitting rooms
>Optionally growling dog, of which nothing ever comes
>In the back of the house gibbering peaks, housegoers are assailed by dirt and blood covered men with wild eyes and rusty tools and clubs (jump scare)
>Out back is another short trench network, this one also populated by crazed and shell shocked veterans
>Lucifer in a snazzy uniform is waiting to collect your gas masks at the end of the trench network
>As you leave he asks if you had a good time and professes that he hopes you did; you don't have much of it left, after all

Are you looking to do a "haunted" trench experience, or an immersion trench experience?

You should decide that first then firmly commit to the theme.

Either way you go, I think the posters in this thread have the right idea: script a narrative that takes the visitors through a tour of the iconic set pieces of trench warfare.

Lol I got an idea for a jump scare

Have a parts of the trench that housegoers can look into but can't enter, have a soldiers reach out of grab people, maybe even one of them can have two dirty soldiers with bloodshot eyes having a brutal melee, ending with one of them bashing the others head in (out of view of course) and end it by either charging at the people watching or dragging the corpse away

yeah yeah

Have a part blocked off while two actors in a German and British/US uniform fight it out. Have the allied dude scream out for the guests to help him, while the german guys is yelling in German. Have the german win and the allied dude tries and crawls away, screaming some sad shit like momma momma or please i dont want to die. (They will be more sympathetic to the American) He crawls temporarily out of view but his legs and boots can still be seen. The German guy grabs a shovel or fieldspaten, stops the dude with his boot. The allied guy screams and the german guy "beats him" to death where the people can only see his boots jump up and all of a sudden hear him stop screaming. Add a sickening 'thump' sound effect. Rig up a fake blood thing to squirt on the German actors face.

I would like to add, have the German stand up with blood smeared everywhere and with a thousand yard stare, and have him quickly walk towards the audience, bloody shovel drawn, before being struck down by a bullet from an unknown sniper.
>>
>>35168441
I mean this is all dependent on your budget. Do you have land to work with? Can you rent a backhoe? Do you have a business licence? Will you hire actors? Can you buy props? Is your city even big enough to support an expensive and family-unfriendly haunted house?
>>
>>35168544
No. But I can dream. And I'm assuming trying to convince a owner of a haunted house would be futile
>>
>>35168640
Go to Florida right now. The tourist trade will be back to normal by October and there's plenty of condemned properties you could scoop up.
>>
>>35162924
I'm sure you could hire an actual amputee as an actor. They do it all the time for first aid simulations
>>
>>35160770
Not to hijack thread, but are there any good movies that treat war as horror and not action?
And not supernatural stuff like dog soldiers, I mean movies where the focus is on war as being a horrific experience to the psyche and the action scenes don't make you go "fuck yeah get some" they make you go "fuck that shit"? Closest I can think of is some parts of Apocalypse Now.

You could make an above ground "trench" out of plastic sheeting stretched over a 2x4 frame. Then you just put holes with windows that look into "dugouts" with spoopy scenes: shellshcoked soldiers hysterically muttering/ screaming, a bloody dressing station where a dude in a plague mask is sawing off limbs. A dude who just smiles and stares like in pic related.

Shoot live rounds at them and detonate actual explosives. Don't let them leave until they either kill you or November 1st morning sun shines. Also kill a bunch of horses and scatter them all over the killing ground.

Jokes aside, honestly, just look at old B&W WWI images. Get the gas masks from those images, try and replicate the horrific pre-modern plastic surgery with makeup, have lots of loud explosions play over speakers and the gas masked and plastic surgery abominations rush at people.
>>
use dry ice to produce clouds of "toxic gas"

Make sure to issue shitty gas masks for the customers to wear

Emphasize the dead and dying in "gas zones."

Thick, glutinous mud

Improvised surgical theatre with rotting meat hidden someplace for authentic smells!

hire amputees, then add make up to make the limb look freshly lost

Fill it knee deep with mud and water. Make a few prop corpses dressed in WW1 uniforms and place them in and around the trench, entangled in barbed wire and the like, cover them in animal blood to replicate the stench. Have a stereo system replicate the sound of gunfire and incoming artillery. Set up a fog projector and fill it with a green colored fog. Give everyone a gas mask and tell them they have 10 seconds to put it on if they see green gas. Have a depressed poet eloquently decrying the destruction and misery he's witnessing. Play Price of a Mile by Sabaton periodically.

>>
>>
>>35183042
Oh shit, how has that slipped everyone's minds?

Have at least one section, if you don't just bring it in and out intermittently, that has Boots on loop. That'll set the mood.

This also raises a good point; as a dude that's done some of these, the noise levels have to be loud and are constant, and that can get to the actors after a while both mentally and physically. Be sure to provide disposable ear plugs and have rotating casts to give them regular breaks, and definitely a lot of water. Depending on your setup, shit gets hot.
