I saw it more in Ghost Recon than Rainbow Six, but yeah. It helps that the rifle looks rad, and had a fairly advanced design in its interchangability that was only rivalled by the AUG but did more than the AUG. If it was a bit cheaper, and Colt wasn't a massive faggot, the Army would be using it, and the firearms industry might look different in what everyone uses.

seems more to me like gun designers fucking around with designs that looked cool over actually being efficient or easy to produce
as it turns out dont fix what aint broken and the gun models of the mid 20th century will be the standard of guns for centuries to come, especially as the first world descends into civil war and revolution in the mid 21st century

Most of the stuff that was futuristic in the 70s still was in 2000, like the aug vs fn2000. Development has been really limited besides simplifying parts, creating better optics, and improving ammunitions and materials. Stuff like the Kriss Vector's recoil system and newer magazine types are about as interesting as it gets. The AN94 is an honorable mention for severely overdesigning an AK clone.

The most interesting new developments have mostly been in larger weapons systems and ordnance. Sonic puke rays, magnetic guns, smart missiles and the like.

Except like every polymer wonder gun it does the exact same thing as the M4, just as well as the M4 so there's no reason to spend the money replacing the M4.
