Do Shilka's guns fire at a same point at set distance, or do you always get quadrant of projectiles regardless of distance?

a quadrant*

Quadrant.

That and the rattle of the barrels making a spray pattern were considered advantageous in its chances of hitting a fast moving target.
>>
>>35153628
Thank you!
Further more, can the operator chose how many guns would fire or is it always all 4?
>>
>>35153577
>>35153628
>Quadrant
That's only in theory. In practice the individual gun's accuracy is too woeful to support such a statement. It's just spray and pray.

IIRC they normally alternate pairs for reloading purposes.
>>
>>35153570
I always thought the shilkas with a missile on each side of the turret were aesthetic
>>
They're so close to eachothers that setting a convergence doesn't really matter all that much, that said they're all probably aimed at a single point 1000m away.
>>
>>35154938
>spray and pray

but there is no spray here comrade
>>
>>35155049
For future reference, Shilka's in Russian service were all upgraded to become Biryusa.

Biryusa or Shilka that have missiles are called Tunguska
>>
>>35155392
Ahhh that's right I forgot the name, always just thought of them as zsu23/4

So, is Shilka viable for urban combat setting?
Can it target a specific window at 500m, or does it just spray the whole building?
>>
>>35155392
The Tunguska is a very different vehicle.

>>35157601
Sure. It's armor is lacking though. The US and UK found that their IFVs worked just fine in urban environments in Iraq due to the range of movement of their cannons. They got around the low armor problem by simply sticking an MBT out in front to distract and catch fire and had the IFVs further back down the road and had infantry covering both.

Tungs are to Shilkas as M2/M3 Bradleys are to M901 ATVs

Say what you want about its relevancy but goddamn that is one sexy tank.

Yes.
>>35157601
>Can it target a specific window at 500m, or does it just spray the whole building?
The latter, it's not intended to be quite so accurate, obviously.
>>
>>35154938
They're practically at point blank range and they're barely making 50% of their hits...
>>
>>35160038
>They're practically at point blank range and they're barely making 50% of their hits...

might seem counter-intuitive but... that's fine. the point is to saturate a fairly consistent column of lead into the sky to hit somewhat larger, faster moving targets, *with radar assistance and a firing computer*

you're seeing them being dicked around with in optical sighting with essential "semi-auto" fire against fairly small targets, that vid is not a useful litmus.
>>
>>35154918
Can pick upper or lower pair.
>>
>>35160038
Half the point of a SPAAG is just to spray as much lead into the air as possible. You don't necessarily have to require a kill. As long as hostile enemy air assets fuck off, the vehicle has done its job. If it manages to down the plane, that's even better of course, but its main purpose is defence. If you wanted offensive anti air you'd get an interceptor.

Funny. All the Bradley guys I ever talked that were in squadrons for Iraq talked about nothing but being in hunter-killer setups with the Bradleys acting as bait.
>>
>>35160458
We used them as Hunter-Killer teams. The Brad would use it's optics to scan/aquire and the Abrams (with a good boresight) would be the sniper. Worked pretty well in the open desert at night.
>>
>>35157601
It was widely used on city fights by the soviets in Afghanistan because it could elevate it's guns higher than the other AFVs and could penetration the stone and concrete buildings.
>>
>>35153570
What would Shilka do to Bradley's front at 500m?
Surely some secondary damage would occur?
>>
>>35161593
>>
Are the pairs of ZSUs networked at all? Or just doing the same type of radar scan?

I believe it was more a matter of fighting in the mountainous terrain. I'd say it's more or less the same, but the fact that we've never really seen similar versions of the ZSU-23-4 being used in places like Grozny indicate that the Russians have no interest in using them as some kind of urban rape machine. Add in their development of the BMPT system and I'd say there's little chance they ever intended to do this.

>we've never really seen similar versions of the ZSU-23-4 being used in places like Grozny indicate that the Russians have no interest in using them as some kind of urban rape machine.
Conflicts have changed, it simple doesnt have a noteable protection against RPGs or similar, bring it into any city and its toast, before it could raise its barrels.
>>
>>35157601
Not really, sure they've got elevation and people 'have' used them in various sandy countries for hosing shit up. But that's sort of offset by the fact they can barely bounce most small arms fire and have some serious mechanical problems.
Being thin skinned and slow, not a fun combo but the commies didn't really worry about that in most of their (non-MBT) vehicles as doctrine.

It'd break peripheral gear and gubbins hanging off the Bradley, but the fat old Brad is a relatively tough vehicle for what it is and you're not getting in with that particular flavour of 23mm.
The 23x115mm is quite an old cannon round and will wreck planes, little gay arse light vehicles and choppers all day long, but its not up to scratch against modern armours and the Americans did continue to upgrade the Bradley's up until fairly recently. Also to note, the Brad has a much better chance of being able to detect and shoot first compared to the Zeus, which stopped development back in the early 80s.
