The older paint job on its sister plane (there are only 2 combat sents, 47 and 49) was way cooler, IMO.

these things are actually really badass, basically they fly rediculously low on the ground and try to trigger radar and air defense systems to measure their reaction time and sent the results back to intel teams. if they actually got hit though, they would be pretty fucked because there is no egress or flares, they dont call it a flying coffin for nothing.

its pretty good working on these jets, they will deploy to pretty much anywhere the US needs strategic reconaissance and of course they bring maintainers along with them. So you get to go to greece, ukraine, germany, japan, etc, if the plane doesn't break you will hardly have any work to do so you just get drunk and fuck foreign girls in your 4 star hotel room and come home with a couple thousand extra dollars from the per diem.

>>35153662

Take a year between high school and college, join the reserve as an enlisted man, go to college, do the last two years in ROTC and get commission. You do less time in TRADOC, people respect you for having prior service, and you get to have fun being an enlisted shitbag for a while; The experience and knowledge are good to have too.

>>
>>35153723

Yeah, it's a cool deal. If you can swing an active duty scholarship right now, I say do it, since that's a fucking value. But those are competitive, and usually you're only looking at a decent ROTC scholarship if you want to go reserve or guard (minuteman, GRFD, etc.).

Just don't tell anyone involved with the ROTC program you're in the army until spring of sophomore year, unless you want to spend time you don't have to as an underclassman cadet (you don't); make sure you'll have enough credits to be a junior by the end of your second year and talk to their Civilian contractor guy about joining as an MSIII.

>>
>>35153800

Yep. Just don't piss hot at your unit or get ANY arrests or citations.

Also, lie on every piece of medical paperwork in your application. You can lie about EVERYTHING and if they don't find it at MEPS, they'll never find it period because of doctor-patient confidentiality (there's not magical universal medical record they can look at). Don't tell them about ANY medications, ANY injuries, ANY surgeries. Mark no down the list for EVERYTHING. I do this for all official military surveys. They will tell you you'll go to jail or some shit if you lie, that's a lie in and of itself.

Do you live in the PA/NJ/NY area?
>>
>>35153831
Nah I live in UT
>>
>>35153857

Can't give you any advice for MEPS, then. Pick an MOS you like in case ROTC doesn't work out. Don't quit at basic, it will be a lot worse for you because you'll be a holdover for longer than you'd be training and you'll be doing dumbass details 24/7 anyway.

Make sure you can pass an APFT with 180 before shipping (!!!). If you're a fatass and can't pass by the end, they make you did it all over again lol.

Don't pick some MOS with a longass AIT, either, fuck that shit.

>yoropoor
That's where you're wrong cunt.
>>
>>35153662
No. Don't do it unless you actually go in enlisted first in the Guard or Reserves so you're not a complete idiot and know what's going on when you commission. I recommend going Guard with a combat MOS that way you actually get your ass kicked and know whats up, then going ROTC and commissioning after graduation. Also, don't go SMP right away, stay enlisted those first 2 years and learn how to be a soldier. It will pay off immensely in the long run. You can commission and go active duty upon graduation.
>>
>>35153892
Alright, won't quit at basic that would hurt my ego far too much.
Not a fat ass so probably good there :)

>How long are temp contracts?
in the reserves? about a summer. a month and a half is pretty standard but the reserve liasons like to chain them

in the reg force, deployments are 3 to 6 months in the navy afaik but you generally stay attached to one ship for longer; hmcs ships spend a lot of time alongside.

>In the US Navy every ship or nioc has their own ball cap they can wear instead of their cover, but not for a whole base.
it's the same here, basically every individual entity has their own ballcap, but any ballcap is wearable anywhere else you'd wear a ballcap under normal working circumstances. in parades they generally want you to have THEIRS though but very few parades wear ballcaps anyway and what few do are not big affairs where they give a shit anyhow. on bases people are off doing their own thing enough that its not worth anyone's time to shake someone else down over wearing the wrong cap, and that'll happen at their actual school/ship/office anyway.

anyway, for example, i have my unit ballcap, a fleet school one, a cfb esquimalt security one (actually i dont because i lost it somewhere, rip) and an hmcs montreal one. I wore my unit cap to a course and only got told to stop because my cap was so worn out, my peers who have not been in as long who have nice new caps weren't given the same treatment.

the same goes for unit and operation patches; they like it if you wear the appropriate one, but theyre basically just collectors items at this point, and many people make a point of wearing their "home" unit patch instead of their current unit one. same for operations, unless theres one going on, people just wear the one theyre most proud of. the shift from sewing patches to velcro everything has only reinforced this behaviour

unfortunately i dont have any operations patches yet despite my last yeoman promising he'd get me one ;___;
>>

>>35155924

>>
>>35156207
Interesting, it makes sense to collect the caps as you go along, like I collect the unit patches I've had, but you only wear the one your attached to (left sleeve). On the right sleeve you can wear anyone you've deployed with.

Just makes sense to me from a organizational standpoint to only wear your unit patch. For example, when I'm on a nearby army base that I'm not stationed on doing army shit, I wear my unit patch. This way the ncos at that base don't bother me because I'm not in their chain of command. If I wore their patch, they could fuck with me and grab me for details.
>>
>>35156264

I dislike and like the idea of that; I hate when people who were attached to an SF unit as supply wear that patch every day...

But again they earned...it?

>>35156264
>Just makes sense to me from a organizational standpoint to only wear your unit patch.
that's the actual rule, but until very recently (the transition isnt even done yet) naval combat jackets didnt have velcro for patches and the like

so people didnt bother changing unit crests unless they were being stationed somewhere for a longass time

same for operation stuff; most people just either dont wear one at all, or wear whatever their most significant one was or fixed velcro to their uniform long before the new standards came out to make things easier
>>
>>35156471
>same for operation stuff; most people just either dont wear one at all,

You do a sergeant's job with an E-4's pay, and every senior NCO will give you shit for not being a sergeant yet. Because you rank below sergeant, you can safely expect to get all the shit details which requires an NCO. I hope you hate weekends because you will get CQ every Friday or Saturday until they promote you, or make you a specialist again. You will occasionally see one for a good reason, I knew an E-4 weapons squad leader because the Platoon Sergeant thought the other NCOs sucked. >First, there is the Army’s recommended 25/300 Meter BZO. This BZO calls for the zeroing of M16A2/A3, M16A4, and M4A1 at 25 Meters with the setting of the rear elevation at 8/3+1, 6/3+1, and 6/3 respectively using the small (long range) aperture. The standard is for the soldier to shoot a 4cm (1.5”) group at 25 meters as the Army extrapolates that a soldier will then be able to shoot a 48cm (19”) group at 300 meters. Once this standard is achieved then the rear elevation setting is moved to 8/3 or 6/3. However, the trajectory of the rounds does not seem to have been considered when the Army chose the 25/300 meter BZO as the maximum ordinate during flight rises almost 9” above the line of sight around 200 meters. In keeping with the Army’s standards for shooting groups this would place most shots 15” above line of sight at 200 meters. Thus, if aiming at the enemy combatant’s chest soldiers would shoot high (head and neck area) between 150 to 250 meters with little room for error regarding windage.

>Second is the Marine Corps’ recommended 36/300 yard BZO. This BZO calls for zeroing the M16A2/A3/A4 and M4A1 at 36 yards with the setting of the rear elevation at 8/3 and 6/3 using the small (long range) aperture. This provides a trajectory with a maximum ordinate during flight of just over 4.5” above the line of sight at around 200 yards. Thus, with a standard of 12” groups at 300 yards for Marines this would allow for most rounds to impact roughly 9” above the line of sight. With an aiming point on the enemy’s chest the rounds would land high on the upper chest just below the neck between the 150 and 200 yards. This BZO will allow more room for error on the part of the shooter, thus slightly better than the 25/300 meter zero.

>ZEROING
>1. To zero the M4/M4A1 CQBW weapons, the line on the sight cam on the left side must align with the 300-m mark. Use the 25-m zero target for the M4, and center your rounds by adjusting the weapon’s front sight post and the BUIS windage
adjustment knob.
>2. To zero the M16A4 weapon, the line on the sight cam on the left side must align with the white line between the 300-m and 400-m marks. This mark is a half notch location, so it is more difficult to align. Use the 25-m zero target for the M16A4, and center your rounds by adjusting the weapon’s front sight post and the BUIS windage adjustment knob.

I mean, you guys didn't really need it right?
>>
>>35159276

The way Marines are the red-headed step child of the military, you guys probably deserved it.

Did said parts actually work on an Amtrack? I'd be surprised at that level of parts commonality.
>>
>>35159344
Bro, the suspension system on the AAV is exactly the same as the one on a Bradley, all we literally did was spray paint said parts green to deter suspicion, we took some roadwheels, shock arms, a dual support roller and even a torsion bar.

When it comes to tactically acquiring parts, we're all Mexicans about it

That blue cord is only used for your auto erotic asphyxiation brought on by you 11bodybag fillers jerking eachother off after sitting in rain for two months.

Glad I'm in the only branch that gets 8 hours of sleep and only accepts people who are at least qualified enough to huff gas without adult supervision.

Why don't you go paint rocks or pick up some cigarette butts or something?

If you guys collectively had an IQ in the double digits you would know that stealing is bad.

But seriously though. Ever wonder what would happen if everyone in the military stopped stealing shit? Would we actually get funding for anything or would they send us to war with rocks and sticks?

Would the storehouses full of much needed gear ever get anywhere or would some fat supply pog just sit and count beans until he keeled over from the heart attack brought on by eating a duffle bag full of MREs every single god damn three day field exercise.

The only tabs anyone here actually cares about are the ones on their beer cans.

Nobody gives a shit that some people can be beaten like dogs in a controlled environment and given a badge of honor. I've seen children live in worse conditions than what most of these "rangers" could deal with for several months.

The only jobs they should really be competing with are vacuum cleaners in a gay bar. Because nobody can suck that much dick.
>>
>>35161292
So glad I was in Marines and we don't tab anything. The only thing almost as gay is a challenge coin. Only our pogs do that.
>>
>>35161317
At least you put those in a sling shot and shoot them at the infantrymen while they're in their little patrol bases.

People say that Skyrim stealth mechanics aren't realistic but personal experience begs to differ. Especially with guys who are on hour 60 with no sleep.

Most fun I've ever had.

I don't know what you people call them. Its when the meat heads go camping in a secluded spot away from all the pogs. They're easy to find all you gotta do is look on a map where you don't want to go and that's how you find them.

Word to the wise. AA batteries have the best projectile characteristics.

Nope. Grunt (0311) with a 128 GT score, 96 asvab.

Also why I was chosen for CLIC (Intel at platoon level). Currently 3.4 gpa. You believe /k/ memes. My father was a Marine, so I followed in his foot steps. Intelligent guys wanted to be door kickers when the wars we're actually happening.

Plus, I'm drunk, I'd literally fail a blead alcohol content by a lot. Being an alcoholic might be the only correct meme. So I spell check myself, usually.

All sorts of guys who are intelligent join to be special forces because it's peacetime and that's the only way they ever will. When I did it was a given I'd do it. So join Navy Seals, wash out and be a cook? Ha. 03 was the way to be. Back to back Iraq/Afghan deployments, a CAR, GI Bill/bachelor's in science, family, career. Good luck with your shit super soldier.

I'll keep lurking. What motivated you to join the Legion?
>>
>>35162591
You are not a dick for asking.
I may just make a thread about being in Mali etc
As for motivation? I got into trouble here and there and liked the idea of romantically honouring my great grandfather. That and I just never felt like I belonged anywhere. So thats the short version I suppose.
>>
>>35155815
Yo airbro, me too! You part of the unit that's been "the most trained battalion in the army" for 3 years and had a million fake deployment rumors, or one of the other 2 that's already over there?

Closest I got was so far was playing opfor alongside some green berets and Navy seals while in Bridgeport. It was pretty cool. We managed to ambush the scout sniper platoon and even staged a raid on the battalion CoC by just driving up to the ecp in a humvee, as well as a few other insurgent activities. Made me appreciate what went into being a guerilla.

Pic related was some of the Marines, including myself, who went along, as well as one of the seals and one of the green berets.
