Hey it's an airgun thread!

I recently got a new beautiful scope for my custom crosman so I'm excited to get out and bag some critters.

Who has an airgun and how often do you shoot it?

>>
I'm looking for a cheap spring rifle for fun and hunting until I can get shotgun certificate. What do you recommend?
>>
>>35143982
What's your price range and what are you looking for, a plinker or something to hunt with.

I've only had 3 Springers. A Winchester a Beeman and some random Chinese knock off called b1 and by far the Chinese one was the hardest hitting and kept groups as good as the other 2.

You could always go for a nitro piston but I never had one so I can't say about anything about them but I know you can run like jsb Jumbo's and shit meant for PCP airguns.

>how often

not as often as I'd like, but now that the cycling season is pretty much done here, I can hit the local range more often. As it were - I could throw my air pistol into a backpack and take it to a local range (disused, except by archers and airgunners, since airguns under 17J are not regulated here in Poland).

Here's what I shoot. Air Arms Pro Sport .177 (best spring piston air rifle on the market, and the prettiest), with a Hawke Sidewinder 10x42 30 SF IR 1/2 MD scope (picture below).

Nice rifle but I find that scope to be really shit for its price. It has basically the same features as a 60$ Amazon Chinese scope for Triple the money.

I'm looking for something else at the moment, not sure what I should get. Something not too expensive. I keep the Eotech and the like for shooting .308 etc...

The FX Independence is the coolest shit I've seen. I just wish it didn't cost $1700.
>>
>>35144013
I bought an $80 spring air rifle from amazon, it was amazingly good and fun.

I am tempted to buy the large round I think its .22 or .25 to shoot squirrels.
>>
My airguns:
>2 x daisy 880
>crosman legacy 1000
>daisy 1100ws

The 880's are extremely accurate with incredible reliability for what they are (like, slug squirrels in the head with a 7x scope at 50 yards 9/10 times accurate) but they lack the oomph the Crosman Legacy provides. If I had the money I would no shit put a high magnification scope on it and take it out to 75 yards. I do stupid shit with airguns though, like spend hours trying to hit cans at 100 yards with three pumps, that sorta deal.

Crosman Legacy 1000 is based on the Crosman 2100 but with slightly more power. Crosman is my favorite brand, but recently I have become extremely frustrated with them. It seems 2/3 of all their sub $150 products either don't work at all or have defects that make them unusable for the purposes I want. For example, I have bought the following air pistols which turned out to be lemons:
>3x Crosman vigilante (leaked co2, leaked co2, barrel didn't align with frame somehow and shot 6 inches left at 15 yds)
>2x Crosman 1377 (aperture sight too low, rekt crown and broken barrel band)
>2x Crosman Legacy 1000 (broken barrel band but kept it anyway because it was extremely accurate by some magic, the second one and my current one has a roll pin trying to work it's way out every time I pump the lever arm and is super inaccurate...might try to recrown it)
>1x Crosman shockwave (sights so low I would have had to turn on noclip and put my face physically inside the gun to align the sights)

The daisy 1100ws was the worst though. The iron sights are completely unusable, there is no way you can adjust the thing as it shoots literally 1.5 feet high at 25 yards. Figured out I have a bent barrel.

Tldr:
>either all sub $150 airguns suck or
>some antigun fucker at walmart is literally throwing the products against the floor and intentionally breaking them then putting them on the shelves

That one is scaled to 10x. I also have a 6-24x56, with the same reticle scaled to 20x, and it's larger.

Quick picture with max red illumination to make it visible when off center (since pointing at the window and trying to take a picture made my phone go crazy).

Also - Falcon makes really nice reticles, and the Hawke AirMax series have wider lines on the bottom vertical, to help with windage holdoff.

And yea - the hawke is really a nice scope (for a $450 one) - Since it sits on a springer (even as good as a pro sport), I wanted a fixed mag (also, for HFT) and a one-piece mount (sports match damp).
>>
>>35144810

depends on your budget.

Top 5 springers IMO:

Air Arms Pro sport
Air Arms Tx200hc
Walther LGV
Walther LGU
HW 97K

For PCP, you can't go wrong with something like an AA s400/410/500/510.
Steyr makes some kickass ones, although we're going into olympic and world class FT territory there.

Something like a Walther LG400 or a Feinwerkbau 800 is capable of literally putting pellets through a single hole.

Even older ones like a FWB 600/300, or a Walther LG200 (old PCA rifles can be converted to pcp) are great compared to the low end stuff like crossman/gamo, etc.

For a cheap springer, Gamos aren't too bad and can be had on sale for about 100 I would guess. The cheapest I believe are Umarex but I never cared for them. I do pest control for a living and we switched away from the springers to the cheap PCP Benjamin Maximus. If you can swing 300 for a gun and pump combo I would go Maximus all day instead of a springer.

Comparing these 2 scopes we're talking about.

God I want a hawke sidewinder soooo bad. I'm never going to justify spending more than 500 on a scope even on a center fire so for me the hawke is the top dog. I love the half mildot setup that goes so much farther than most scopes.

Right now I'm using some osprey rangefinder and I hate it.

Basically >>35146528 . The UK is airstrip one for all intents and purposes at this point in its existence. Either move to Northern Ireland where you've got a little more leniency but really it's just to carry. Either way, you gotta join a gun club, get a gun safe & ammo safe in two different rooms, get your licenses, limit your cartridge sizes to under 1000 each; just a pain. Then if you wanna actually HAVE them, no semi-auto centerfire funz whatsoever. Also no firearms with barrels under 31cm, 65cm overall, including handguns of any kind.

That leaves you with Troy PARs and straight pull ARs but no milspec, 10/22s but no m1a socoms, Keltec KSGs but no DP-12, and revolvers or blowback pistols you have to pull the slide back after every shot both of which with ridiculously long barrels and a dildo tac-welded onto the butt of the grip of its still not long enough. Jfmsu

...at least you can own bolt-action 50cals and suppressors with no special paperwork

Any recommendations for a air rifle? I'm cross dominant so I want to practice shooting long guns left-handed before actually buying one. Just looking to plink, is the Daisy Red Ryder any good? And secondary, perhaps an ability to kill pigeons too. Otherwise I'm not looking to spend any more than $100

you won't get anything good for $100. The cheapest I feel comfortable recommending is a Walther Terrus for $200 (synthetic stock). Light years ahead of any hatsan, crossman, or whatever you can pick up.

That, orr look for a used FWB 300, Diana 65/75, or something like that.

get a proper spring piston one. like I said in >>35147597 they're mostly all the same design and are about as high quality as eachother. expect to spend between 120 and 200 dollars for a middling quality one. one good enough to shoot but is still nothing special, firing at around 400 fps (just because of how laws have worked out, most manufacturers see 395 as the magic number of "can be sold basically anywhere without modifications")

nope.

There is a HUGE friggin difference between a cheap (ie, under $200) springer, and a high end one, like the 5 I already mentioned (pro sport, tx200, lgv/lgu, hw97).

>>35147616
you can get something decent for $300. I'd still say get a Walther Terrus in this price range.
>>
>>35148153
>Why would I want to spend any more than 300

because the best air rifles are easily $700+?
And that's springers for you. for pcp rifles, something like a Walther LG400 is around $2500+.

And then there's a whole range of FAC (energy exceeding 16.3J) rifles for hunting bigger-than-small game, and a bunch of high powered ones for big game even.

Also - an AR15 is hardly a sub 1 moa gun, and for pest control, the air rifle is king.

Why would you pay $200-300 for a springer when you can get a PCP for $200?

>>
>>35149599
airsoft doesn't compare to something like >>35144028 that's basically an olympic competition pistol, that you can shoot in your own back yard, with the same level of precision (and if you miss, it's always the shooter's fault).

It's relaxing. As for an air rifle, a high end springer is a lot of fun to shoot, and can match a .22lr for accuracy at 50 yards easy, and still have the power to headshot a rabbit dead at 40m. And if you're not getting rid of pests, HFT is a lot of fun.

Get a custom mold and make your own.

Find some black powder lead in the right calibre.

Contact a pellet making company and ask if they can fill custom orders.

Drill the barrel out larger and get a barrel liner that will fit the calibre you want. (Idk what the twist rate is in air rifles but I'm sure you can get a liner or one made.)

Yep. Are you sure it's not a .22?

If you have a micrometer you can measure the bore diameter and search around the net for oddball pellets at that size.

why would anyone buy an expensive bicycle, when you can buy a car for that much (a cheap, old car, but still)

why do olympic shooters spend thousands of dollars on their air rifles?

With a powder burner, you are limited as to where you can shoot it. With an air rifle, you are not (unless you are totally retarded about it). I have to go to a range if I want to shoot my pistol, but my air pistol, I can set up pretty much anywhere with 10m worth of space and a solid backstop.

Posting another picture, because why not.

Also - for pest control, air rifles are better than rim/centerfire rifles, since they can be safely used indoors, and other places.

There is a minimum price point for everything.
Sure, you can get a "wallmart special" for $100 with a scope, but don't expect to be hitting thumb tacks with it at 50m - a beer can at 15-20m is a more realistic target.

As to how people are supposed to get into the hobby - you can buy a very decent springer for around $200, put an $100 scope on it, and have fun for well below 700 bucks.

I shoot a $700 springer with $500 glass, which is a really high end, competition-level setup for HFT. If you want to get into FT, then you just have to accept the fact that are probably going to spend 2k+ on the gun, scope, air tank and accessories, etc.
>>
>>35155110
There's not a minimum price points; high end precision equipment costs more than cheap fun plinkers. I've got real guns, but I also enjoy shooting my air pistol. I can't go shooting my firearms in my backgarden or indoors. You know you can enjoy both, right? It's not a binary choice.

>Why would ANYONE spend $700 on some airtoy when they could buy an actual gun?

a 700$ airgun performs only slightly under par of a similarly priced powder based gun in the same caliber, but is much cheaper to feed

a supersonic .177 or .22 air rifle is basically as much as a decent quality .22lr rifle anyway

if you pay more than 200$ for a ~400fps spring piston you're a retard. if you're getting into Real Firearm territory, yeah, the prices climb, but some stock standard .177 for plinking cans or wasting pigeons shouldn't break $150. in that price range, theyre literally all the same, just scaled slightly differently here or there.

>>35148627
because spring pistons are cheaper AND more accurate at that level of power

and CO2 guns are generally fun toy guns meant to fire semi if not full auto just for having fun (like that one HK-licensed bb MP5 that Umarex makes)

basically at that muzzle energy/velocity a spring piston gun is your best bet. its easy enough to cock but still very very accurate. only peasants need a second shot. you can get ~400/~500 fps repeating BB guns but theyre generally shit because
>BBs
>>
>>35155426
also
>BBs
>muh penetration
doesnt mean shit when its a difference of individual eighths of inches, against a fucking rabbit, that you shot in the fucking head
>>
>>35155447
Yes, actually. A BB will not do it properly as BB guns lack the muzzle velocity to kill anything.
>>
>>35155488
i feel like youre trying to b8 here

a BB gun CAN have sufficient muzzle velocity, bust most dont because of simple market forces and manufacturing costs; to make an accurate and powerful bb gun isnt much different from making an accurate and powerful pellet gun, but pellet guns already have the better rep for being accurate and powerful. but also, BBs are easier to feed through magazines, so repeating air rifles will tend to use BBs over pellets.

and in terms of accuracy, pellets are just better because a skirted pointed pellet has better aero than a ball and better engagement of the barrel's rifling than a ball.

BBs aren't objectively inferior but good luck finding a gun that was made for BBs that's as powerful as a pellet gun, just because pellets are so much better aerodynamically and most airgunners are concerned with accuracy over power, so most hunting airguns are made with pellets (or at least larger balls than BBs like .25 or .30) in mind

at the level of a 400-500fps canuck/euro "is literally a toy" airgun, people just want pellets because they just perform better at that level of power

theyre just as fast as an equivalent bb but have better accuracy, and the difference in power/energy-to-target/penetration is so minimal that the increased accuracy of a pellet is more valuable than the increased power of a BB

in larger PCP airguns for hunting hogs and shit, you see a lot more straight up musket balls because they feed easy and what you want is to drive 2 or 3 rounds through a hog's skull before it gores you because the first round just bothered it. but for hunting sparrows and squirrels, .177 pellet is better than 4.5mm ball because you're obliterating the thing's brain or lungs either way and shot placement matters more than energy delivery

well hello there. This thing shoots airsoft BBs. from 30m.
With ease.

have you tried looking for some 7.5J 10m olympic precision rifle? They're quite expensive, but an older one, like a Walther LGM can be converted from PCA to PCP.

looks like that paint was structural. typical american construction desu

what do you mean by "literally airshit vs literally airshit"

air rifles are not airsoft
>>
>>35155584
Depends on how much or if at all I can find it. I'd rather just get around to filing my Pal paperwork if I'm going to spend 700 for an airgun to convert it.

I'll probably just slap a bulk fill on my co2 and buy a compressor for a few hundred.

Diana Model 34 .177 Leupold 3-9x33AO vxii. Vortec spring. Shoot about 1500-2000 rounds a year. I own "real" guns, but this is my favourite.
