It's only gone to shit since we don't use .45 as a standard in the military.

When they turned the military into a social experiment.
You get told on a daily basis that as a male, you are a rapist, you get told to accept shit that you never grew up believing in.
They let complete substandard performers keep doing their jobs because no one want to do the paper work to get rid of them.
They will let females and minorities get away with all kinds of shit that a white male can't get away with.
There are a 100 more rants but I don't want to steal anyone thunder.

Boots aren't being hazed properly. They let people in who shouldn't. Like guys who can't even complete the crucible got pushed through.

When my DI gave my EGA he said "Good job Marine, you earned it" and patted my shoulder. Then the shitbag next to me he just stared at in disgust for 5 seconds, handed him his EGA, and moved on to the next guy.

I was kinda joking about the hazing, but shit is a little to lax. Those that followed me we're continually worse. 3 out of 5 boots went UA before deployment. We caught one and made him deploy and do bitch work for 9 months then discharged him as soon as we got back.

The last generation of quality officers were driven into retirement by Obama's 8 years of PC diversity bullshit. Their replacements were chosen not for their ability; but for their willingness to embrace the new PC agenda.

The net result is a decline in the quality of officers and lower morale among the enlisted due to having a cultural change imposed on them that very few of them are comfortable with.

Hopefully Trump will take the hatchet to more of Obama's appointees and things can start moving back to the way they were.

If you don't enforce standards (via physical pain, financial pain, or judicial pain) you end up with every branch looking like the Air Force. They have been a garbage bin of a branch since the 1980s.

Enforce standards. Literally that simple. Make the mental cases cry instead of tolerating them and their fucked up lifestyles/mission ethic.

Haven't been to /k/ in years and this is what I stumble on page 1.

USMC Sgt here (inactive reserve now). I don't think the US military has gone to complete shit, it's always been held together by chewing gum and duct tape, this is not new. Chaos is our natural environment, the growing pains never stop because we never stop changing. Most of our problems now-a-days come from cronyism, the fact that only certain kinda person volunteers for a job that might entail running towards machine gun fire, the fact that we don't have constitutional rights, and the fact that we're slow to change because we have robust mechanisms like extreme bureaucracy in place.

Cronyism is hard to avoid, having an all volunteer military means hiring those people but having a draft means something even worse, not having constitutional rights is just as useful as it is detrimental, and we use robust systems like extreme bureaucracy BECAUSE they're robust and are hard to break even in chaos.

Just the nature of the game, embrace the suck.

Hasn't been that way since World at War. Every game since you're in some special unit. The last "normal" unit was the Marine task force in MW1 which was wiped out via nuke, and arguably in MW2 when you were a Ranger but even they're classified as special forces.
>>
>>35118695
The War on Terror.

It has absolutely ruined us, and the decision making that has stemmed from it has rotted away at every single branch ever since.

See, at face value, the US Military has been training for nonconventional warfare for almost 2 decades. 2 decades with no REAL enemy. Instead, we have been taught about shades of grey. "Oh yes this Taliban is evil, however the two men next to him that rape a 6 year old girl every night are fine! Hearts and minds!" Furthermore, some of the system being used to fight these wars is still ancient and trapped in doctrine from the 1980s.

Additionally, while we aren't going and doing things like actually defending this nation, but enforcing "American interests" which are really the interests of Sunni sycophants in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and of course Israel (though Jewish in their case), we need to stand ready to fight and occupy at ANY time. What does this mean? Well during the original Iraq conflict, a National Guard unit was deployed, in theater, for 18 months straight. It means the Marines are doing foot patrols in Afghanistan for 12 month tours...a nation that is totally landlocked. It means that SOCOM has the fastest operation tempo in its history, with Rangers regularly barely getting 2-3 weeks between deployments. And that doesn't even mention our poor Carrier groups or Destroyers in the Navy, who are now ALSO dealing with Lil Kim Jong. The reason for these collisions at sea? Crews regularly being extended for months at a time with no replacement at all, and incredibly long hours.

Finally, and most importantly; total brain drain. The officers and senior NCOS of the past are gone. What is left are a bunch of losers who keep their jobs because they can't make it anywhere else. The garbage rules of engagement and micromanaging made everyone worth their salt in senior billets fuck off. What remains are the Obama era officers more obsessed with numbers and diversity than an effective fighting force.
>>
Lack of a defined mission and objective. Pre-1946 everything was centered on defending US soil and overseas holdings of value (Philippines, Panama Canal, etc). Then from 1946-1991, it was being ready to kick the shit out of communists in West Germany with a side of irregular warfare. Now they want an army that's also a police force, a construction company and a cash cow for contractors.
>>
>>35119715
To finish up;

I served 3 tours. 2 Iraq, 1 Afghanistan as a line medic.

I got out, went Reserve, and currently work with a regular medical unit. We recently got back from a huge exercise, not quite NTC size but close. On our last day, back at the unit, cleaning tents and humvees all day, ALL training had to stop for over 2 hours for a SHARP and equal opportunity briefing, all because one Mexican faggot got a stick up his ass because somebody made a passing REFERENCE to Trump, and one female nco complained about some G rated jokes from one dude to another.

2 hours, 2 hours of pay for 50-60 soldiers to be told not to make a joke about how "we should save this penny for "Jewish NCO who jokes about it himself"."

Those are your taxpayer dollars.

It's actually getting better now that proper leaders are being put into postion (SgMajor Dailey and Commandant Robert Neller) but there's still a lot of improvement to be made. Air Force is still a decrepit hell hole of political bullshit even though the NCO corp is making progress. Navy is in the middle of trying to redo everything like a chicken with it's head cut off. The Army and Marines have finally adapted to todays new battlegrounds but are still suffering from the cultural shift and the 2000 to 2015 over react to any and all negative PR, both real and perceived.

Longer hours, promotions for alignment of workplace culture not merit, shitty physical standards

When I was in the navy it was seen as perfectly acceptable to have so many watches that you'd get 4-5 hours of sleep for months at a time. It became common for people to skip meals just so they could sleep. Everyone is exhausted. Pretty much no one works out because they're already tired and every year a huge chunk of people fail their PFAs. The senior staff see this no sleep thing as a rite of passage instead of an issue.
>>
It really hasn't gone to shit. I'm one of the few enlisted guys whose job is on the jet and I can tell you that life is pretty awesome. Too much cycling people through units. Not enough skill building and unit cohesion.

>train up new team member to basic level of job skill, 6 months later lose that new team member and have to train another to basic skill level.

>send teamember for additional skill training such as ranger school or air assault, team member gets pulled to another unit and now have to train new guy to basic skill level.

>new team member finally gets his shit together and works well with team, gets pulled 8 months later and is replaced with complete new guy whom no one trusts yet.

I honestly believe the military would be better off with people staying in their assigned units for minimum 2 years before being allowed to switch units. For some stupid reason we have officers coming in and out every 6 months, which causes so many damn issues. Also, how is my team member supposed to become proficient in a skill if you pull them and they are forced to retrain basics with new unit.

'03-'09 Navy nuke. This >>35118742 >>35118850 >>35118940 >>35119715 >>35120291

I'd add that the degradation of the military was in place pre-9/11. There was a Tailhook thread a few weeks ago that really hit it. By the time 9/11 rolled around, everyone in the upper chain of command had gotten there by joining a peacetime military and playing office politics; their driving force in life was to GTFO of the hood or the holler, depending on origin. Then they suddenly got a flood of patriotic fools who joined after watching people jump out of 40th story windows live on TV in high school and who wanted to help their country, and they just didn't know wtf to do with people like that. So, suddenly there were two competing cultures that were totally antithetical; a group in the lower ranks who only want to get the job done, and a group in the upper ranks who just wanted to look good. The upper ranks wanted to keep looking good, so they selected those they thought were like them to move up. That means, during an active shooting war, people who worked diligently and proficiently were passed over for promotion in favor of the Equal Opportunity/Sexual Harassment Prevention/Morale Committee/Safety Committee motherfuckers. That brings us to today, where fighting wars is treated as ancillary to the maintenance of the functioning bureaucracy. It's a fucking disgrace.

To see how dangerous the bureaucracy is, look no farther than the Army cocksuckers who switched to a camo uniform that made soldiers EASIER to see than the old one, just b/c it looked cool. Not even fucking exaggerating. That's why they did it. They were jealous of the Marines' MARPAT. Seriously.

Also, ANYONE who gives a fuck what color socks you have on. Fuck them right in the ass.

Lastly, ignore this guy >>35120306 and people like him. The people who do the shit they show on recruiting commercials love it, sure. They're also not the people who represent the vast majority of the force.

It hasn't.

People are just eager to pick out percieved faults. Nearly everybody does it when they're at a job even down to minor unimportant details that they'd forget about entirely if they did something else on vacation for around a week or a month.

If you consider all the regions, and cultural differences. Places like the U.S. Army are the most effective institutions at training people-( especially with different backgrounds) to perform as a team. Private sector corporations and companies don't even come close to the esprit de corp. In fact most civilian places of employment kind of encourage people against one another so they can pay them all less. Most people in the private sector would stuff your kids in a sack and throw them off a bridge into a river if they got a minor bonus check like 2% of min wage from their boss one time.

The cycling of personnel happens in army for sure.

This shit happened because of vietnam and the draftees. They had draftees serving the same amount of time as regulars, and since they were a pain in the ass most of the time, they were forced to cycle personnel every few months because gov believes army soldiers are just gears in a machine that can be easily replaced with a new gear.

I honestly dont understand why we dont keep multiple small arms weapons in service like we did pre vietnam. I understand parts compatibility, but why cant we have an m4 and m16 issued based on location, say iraq and afghanistan? Issue m4s in iraq, and issue m16s in afghan. M4s are great in their current cqb set up with the aimpoint dots, and m16s have the capability to hit out to at least 500-600yds accurately with an acog. Hell, train up DMRs for small units and issue them an m16. Parts are interchangeable, so i dont understand why not keep both?

Not if you ever want to make LCDR.

If you're happy with making LT, sure; get to know your people. Don't micromanage them; that's their PO2's job. If your LCPO is micromanaging them, he's too close. Keep an eye on the bullshit, and on individual accomplishments. If you have a person who's pulling every collateral duty in the book, but is not being tasked with challenging evolutions, that person should not be advanced before an individual who is carrying the weight of the shop on their shoulders. If you find that a higher up is looking to shit on your guys for something that's not their fault, you have identified a "leadership challenge." Your task as a JO is to then identify a set of corrective actions that will successfully mollify the individual who took a shit on your guys, while simultaneously minimizing the negative impact on the esprit de corps of those under you. You may find there is no such solution, in which case you need to fall back on the good faith you've built with your people previously, while you are assisting your higher up in their malicious penetration of your people.

I may have been a TAD cynical by my EAOS...

I care more about an environment of success for people who put in their best effort and get results than my advancement. To be anything else would be, in my grandpa's words, "nigger". I'll keep that in mind, thanks anon.

Sure I do. There are generally 2 types of business workers.
1. Long term- Tries to spend most of their working day browsing cat pictures on their smart phone and convincing single mother college drop outs on dating websites to have sex with them
2. Manager types, tries to spend as much time as possible cutting operational costs selling off as much equipment as the company can get away with and other cost saving measures like turning the thermastat off until half the building complains, and outsourcing work the guy browsing cat pictures says he needs more help with for min wage and firing everyone they think they can so they can get a stock bonus to impress girls with before they drop out of college and become a single mother before the business goes tits up and they liqudate all the assets and sell the brand name off to some guy who wants to sit on a yacht and browse cat pictures on his smart phone while he hires min wage workers to run the business some day in the future.

Boi, this shit isn't going to last forever and when shit truly does hit the fan and all that bullshit is out the window, you're gonna want guys who know how to kick down doors and have all that infantry knowledge you need to win a war.

So pretty much, better safe than sorry
