In that case, gather any knives, chains, baseball bats, or other potential melee weapons, and make it known, beyond all shadow of a doubt, that you are in your home. Keep a camp lantern lit in the window at all times, and if you hear banging on a door or window, start yelling. Looters are looking for a quick and easy buck, not to fight to the death. Also, head to walmart, and see if you can buy one of those plastic orion flareguns (even california doesnt classify them as a firearm, so you should have no trouble buying one, and if asked about it, you can always say that you may need it to signal rescuers if you get flooded). Take that shit home, and spraypaint it black. The average looter wont recognize the difference, so you MAY be able to intimidate them away with it, and if you cant, youve always got a magnesium slug that travels at (i think) ~800 feet/sec. In a last ditch scenario, and without a gun, it's better than having nothing at all.

Its not so bad, im in the third floor of a concrete walled apartment building so flooding wont be an issue. My excuse of a human being land lord didnt even bother answering my calls or putting up shutters so i drilled like 20 holes outside and put wooden boards over the windows. Besides that i have a bunch of propane and propane accessories, a stove, flashlights, first aid, food, water, large piwer supply for charging shit, a central bath tub. Besides the gun and ammo im pretty safe. Only thing to defend myslef with is a rusty hand axe, kitchen knives, and blowtorch.
