Asbestos was used in gas masks until the mid to late sixties.

This is a rebreather made in the ninties.

Asbestos will give you cancer if it gets in your lungs, what I'm looking for will liquify then set fire to your lungs if you breath it in.

they appear fairly regularly on eBay, if the listing doesn't show a picture of the canister's indicator strip then don't buy it because it's likely a scam listing.

I'm sure you already know this, but be careful when using it. Soviet rebreather tanks get very hot while in use.

As was already said check E-bay.
Few Hungarians routinely sell them. Have never seen one past the late 90's though.
Be sure of the shipping though many couriers refuse to ship them as they are a hazardous ground shipping only item.
If you have the money for a ticket to Kazakhstan I could give you the co-ords for a dump with ~10,000 IP-4m masks and filters. Another ~10,000 GP4 and 5 masks as well

Get a work contract then. That's how I did it.
We were upgrading to a mix of SCBA and newer rebreathers so threw out the seacan of older masks. Dumped it in the desert with scrap from Chernobyl and a bunch of old military equipment.
