>no way this is true

It is. I don't know why, but it is. I'm not out of shape either. As a kid I was always on the skinny side so I blamed my weakness on that, but now I have no excuse other than that I'm a piece of shit. It's a basic and ultimately useless exercise but it is beyond my abilities.
>>
>>35100666
Situps are worse than alternative exercises but they aren't useless. Core strength is extremely important and being unable to do a single situp is a big problem.
>>
>>35100666

>>
>>35100751

>>35100740
Before last week when I started looking into enlisting I had completely forgotten that I couldn't do a situp because it has been so long since I even tried. I had been doing other core exercises instead. I did find I can do a decline situp though, so maybe I just need to keep doing those until I can do a real one

I think it's because Option 40 can be attached to a wide range of MOSs, while 18x is just 18x.
If you fail at any point in the 18x pipeline, it's like you failed basic and AIT for any other MOS. With Op 40, you already completed basic and your AIT for whatever job you chose.

For increasing pushups, is it better to grease the groove (do a set amount of pushups every hour every day) or follow a program like 100 pushups? I was doing them every day for a couple weeks with no noticeable improvement so I've switched over to 100 pushups on the advice of an anon and it feels weird not to be doing pushups at least every day.
>>
>>35102300

I do push ups and sit ups five times a day at three hour intervals. Whatever my starting number is when I wake up, three hours later, then before lunch, then in the afternoon, then in the evening before dinner. I increase that number over time.

>Long hard school

I got a 99% on the ASVAB and enlisted as a nuke EM. The first year was decent. 6 months of A school and 6 months of Power school. I graduated in the top half of my class. Then I failed out in Prototype. The 6 months of Prototype kicked my fucking ass. Prototype is not a school. There are no classes. There are no teachers. It is a library in a nuclear power plant. You sit in a tiny cubicle and memorize training manuals 14 hours a day. Then you are quizzed on the material. That's not even the worst part.

The worst part is you live on a rotating shift schedule. One "training week" you are on day shift. The next "training week" you are on mid shift. The next "training week" you are on night shift. Then it repeats. It's a schedule designed to make you sleep deprived. Notice how I said "training week". It's not a real week. One "training week" is you work 5 days, then have 1 day off. Then you work 6 days, then have two days off. Then you work 7 days straight, then have three days off. Just imagine a schedule invented by a fucking sadist.

I use to keep two alarm clocks and a calendar by my bed. Often I would wake up in the middle of the day in a panic. I’d grab my calendar and figure out if I was late for work or not. They say, "Prototype is not a filter. It's a pump.” Bullshit. I was filtered. So was 25% of my EM class. The class before me had one suicide and one car accident. The guy in the car accident died crashing into someone's living room. It's obvious to me he fell asleep at the wheel because of the retarded schedule.

No, most Rangers are not infantry. You have to remember that infantry is a tiny minority of the Army.

>this is not true and you dont know what youre talkinga bout. 18x dont get assigned MOSs until much later. They are run of the mill 11b airborne guys until they hit Pre-sfas prep.

That anon poorly explained it but he's basically correct. The reason 18X go "needs of the Army" is that they never get an MOS if they fail, since it's an MOS pipeline contract. Option 40 contracts are not for an MOS, just an additional school on top of whatever MOS the option was added to.
>>
>>35102540

Correct, but one has met their contractual obligation and one hasn't. Every contract has an obligation to become qualified in an MOS. 18X are contractually obligated to be successful in attaining an 18-series MOS, Option 40 are contractually obligated to be successful in attaining whatever their MOS is that the option is attached to.
>>
>>35102587

if you can wait awhile I would do that and work on PT in the meantime. It'll be hard to go to RASP once you're in the Army, much harder than it is for new recruits. You can get to go to RASP, but it's mainly used as a reenlistment bonus.
You could also take a two year inf contract, work on PT during that time, and get a reenlistment bonus of airborne and RASP. The downside to that is you won't be in an airborne unit during that time.

Even cruising on the week 5 for a while is good
Went from ~30 to 40 in a month or so, maybe 5-8 sessions I remembered to do

I haven't tried the running program, but getting to 5k isn't bad, ran for my third time today in two months and hit 4k in 20:40-ish. Might have gone for more if time wasn't an issue.

What qualifies for FAIRLY pussying out for a bit due to sickness during OCS or boot camp in regards to being sick? A fever (100+)? A deep hacking cough? Just the sniffles?

What do they do with you if you are sick?
>>
>>35102406
Just feels like when you try to pull yourself up on a ledge but you aren't strong enough I guess. If I keep doing half situps like that will I eventually be able to do a full one?
>>
>>35106436
Honestly dide this is a unique case cause ive seriously never heard of someone not being able to do one. The situp portion is supposed ot be the easiest part.
Try training your core with other methods.
Planks are great for this. Try holding crunches. Bicycles. Stuff like that.
>>
>>35106415
They put you in sick call in the army but that's only if you let them know. Unless you're bleeding or very obviously dying, drill sergeants ain't gonna give a fuck. If you miss certain blocks of instruction or training while you're sick, they'll expect you to make it up- whether by recycling or finding time to do it after the fact

Expect zero pity as well
>>
>>35106490
Now I'm embarrassed. I seem to be naturally bad at exercise in general. Planks seem like a good idea though.
>>
>>35106514
Really? I'd figure if you have a 102 degree fever they wouldn't want you to make it worse by "manning up" like a macho dickhead and ending up even sicker.

I can understand making up missed time.

>no pity
But will they make me warm soup like mom does?
>>
>>35106525
>macho dickhead
are you sure you want to join the military?
>>
>>35106525
Basically how it went at OSUT for me was every morning during formation they'd ask for who needed to go to sick call, and you'd raise your hand. They don't really notice if you're sick or unwell unless you're very seriously in trouble or pain.
>>
>>35106567
There's a difference between being a tough man and being a macho dickhead. A tough man would use a coat in winter so he can stay outside longer whereas a macho dickhead would refuse a coat because he thinks it makes him look weaker, then he catches hypothermia because he's an idiot.

>>35106577
Ok thanks.
>>
>>35106597
A word to the wise: sick call is awful and it's a dangerous place for you mentally. You'll be surrounded by kids who have quit, are trying to quit, or who are hurt so badly that they're being discharged. They will all try to convince you to do the same. It spreads like a disease, especially during the first 3 or so weeks of bct. Try not to go there at all if you can. If you just have a cold or the shits or an upset stomach, don't go to sick call. Trust me on this

Hey I'm enlisting for coast guard and am DEPing in 1 week from now. When I handed in my contract prep thing I also signed some paperwork. I was just wondering if it was all good or if I was being lied to. So I'm enlisting as an ET and got a 93 on my ASVAB my recruiter told me that I could get a $10k signing bonus and guaranteed A School right after bootcamp. The $10k is to be given after completion of school, for the most part all of the papers looked in order and solid, but the one with the bonus listed it as a bonus for college credits prior to enlisting. All the hours of prior school were listed as 0, he told me not to worry about the wording on there as it was a modified document specifically for this. It had everything else right and did say I would come out of A School as an e4 with a $10k bonus. I also checked and the coast guard is offering this deal officially as well. I just wanted to make sure my recruiter wasn't somehow screwing me over.
>>

So in other words don't go there unless you're deathly ill, because you'll be a crab in a bucket full of crabs.
>>
>>35102377
Not necessarily a good way to go by it is say u need to do 30 push-ups in 60s take 1/3 of the goal and do it spaced out 10x a day. This will get your muscle memory for it to improve without really ever waking up sore if you consume a good amount of protein daily. I could do maybe 15 straight after not working out for 2 years after finishing highschool (used to wrestle and be in decent shape). Then I did 10 sets of 10 while eating a bunch of lean meat/eggs/milk/protein powder. Did this for maybe a week then did 4 sets of 15 and 4 sets of 10 maybe another week, and by week 3 I was doing 5 sets of 20 a day and can max out to 30 whenever I really try.

So I ship to MEPS in a few days, and I started watching YouTube videos about the whole ordeal a few hours ago. I got it the part about the exercises, and I could do them all except for the duck walk. I know, it was dumb to not try them before hand. He texts me yesterday morning and said he got the best job drop he's had in 7 months, 6 intel slot open, drone sensor operator, a couple aircrew, and a handful of cyber slots. Most of it being what I was interested in.
Is this some trick they use to try and reel people back in?

Stop thinking in terms of NCO. Thats just a meme term. You dont aspire to be an NCO you aspire to rank up. as you rank up responsibility increases.

Tell them what you want and then if they try to give you shit and stick you somewhere else, leave

a few days later there will magically be a slot open for the very thing you want

make sure everything you want is IN WRITING in your FINAL CONTRACT. Not anything that you sign at the recruiters office- the real contract at MEPS. If it's not at MEPS, just walk. You are under no obligation to the military until you're on the plane to your basic training station. They will get you what you want as long as you're hard headed and have applicable ASVAB scores.

Well as I said CTN specifically is undermanned always. So youre going to advance faster, get bigger bonuses for re-enlsiting and enjoy access to more schools most likely. >3 semester into college, shit happens, and now out of cash, cant continue

I'm looking into enlisting to army or air force (or which one offers 3 year contract) because I read that if you serve at least 36 months active duty, you can get 100% tuition paid with GI Bill

What mos that will give you skills/certs that is the most useful in the civvie world after serving? I'm not the top dog high speed person so i dont care about motto and shit im here just for free college
>>
convince me to go cav scout instead of infantry
>>
>>35121045
You'll basically be infantry anyways.
>>
>>35120859
They say that 36 thing incase you get injured after month 36 or something. Almost positive there are no 3 year contracts. Gotta get that 4 year man.
What kind of job are you interested in dude, saying useful is way to vague.
>>
>>35121126

I was looking something combat like infantry/MP/combat medic, leaning towards EOD but thinking about the high drop out rate and i dont want to get thrown out into a MOS that i dont like during the ~1 year training pipeline

The 36 month i got is from https://gibill.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/947

>Veterans who have served at least 90 days of active duty service after September 10, 2001 and received an honorable discharge will qualify for the Post-9/11 GI Bill. To qualify for the full benefit a Veteran must have served at least 3 years of active duty after September 10, 2001.

I haven't changed my eating habits and I haven't drank alcohol in more than a month what the hell do I do.

You honestly think a minimum 4-year enlistment is a good fucking idea just because you ran out of cash for a couple more semesters of college?
>>
>>35121673
National Security Act of 1947 guaranteed 3 divisions of Marines. Marines lobbied for that provision because the Army got good at amphibious landings in WW2, so they were insecure as fuck.

There are 3 years + training contracts. Intel/Computer jobs transfer the best if you like that stuff.

Optionally look into ROTC. That will pay for college while you're in college and then commission you as an officer.

Is joining the National Guard to "try it before you buy it" a good idea or just a meme my recruiter is trying to sell me?
>>
>>35124648
Propaganda. Even when Bubba comes back from his time mopping floors at base people will ride his cock and celebrate his bravery.
>>
>>35124684

It's usually fairly hard to go active duty from the National Guard, so it's more like "try it and now you are not allowed to buy it".

There's a few cases in which it makes a lot of sense, but it's not a pathway to a full time career. It's a part time job with part time pay and benefits.

>>35124336
Statistically you're likely right, but if things go right I don't see why not.. I'll look more into the new plan regardless

I signed a 09S contract, wondering at what point will my girlfriend be able to live with me. She keeps asking me and all I can tell her is, "probably after OCS, before IBOLC." I don't know shit, but this seems to be correct from what little my recruiters know. Any ideas?
>>
>>35123101
Yes. They are SOF, they are not Special Forces. Difference. A lot of civilians call EVERYTHING that is spooky Special Forces even though that refers specifically to one particular organization in the US Army.

Navy SEALs and MARSOC aren't Special Forces either.
>>
>>35125138
You realize you'll have to tie the knot first before she can live with you on base, right?
>>
>>35125207
I did not realize, my recruiters told me officers have different rules. Fuck.
>>
>>35125243
You can get off base housing as an officer right off the bat iirc, but it's after BOLC. So she can live with you then.
>>
>>35125268
She's from as rich family, would her moving to the Benning area during IBOLC make it possible?
>>
>>35125108

Old plan - A bit better if everything goes right and you're in the small percentage of people who draw a pension.

New plan - Infinitely better in every other scenario, but you have to opt in early.

Applying a little game theory will tell you that the new plan is the way to go. Remember that most people think they're capable of doing 20 years when they start, but the vast majority don't end up doing it. Many factors there are even outside of your control.
>>
>>35125207

Depends on where you're living on base. You can definitely have a girlfriend live with you in on-post housing.
>>
>>35125318
I would hold off on having her move until after you get your first duty station. If you want to stay with her, I would suggest you think about wifing her. At least I would if you've been with her > 3 years.

Best avoid the heartbreak. It feels 20 billion times better to dump than to be dumped. And if you marry, make damn sure to get an airtight prenup or make her fear for her life if she leaves you (former is preferable).

Its not impossible for a girl not to cheat or a guy but man its rare.

From what I saw in regards to failing relationships was that it was the 18-25 year olds with their HS/college sweetheart that got dumped. Older dudes still had problems but with less frequency. Most of the time it's just that one person in the relationship is just not mature enough to handle long distance or periods of separation longer than a few weeks, and military age tends to be young

Yea even if you have it notarized, lawyerized, and written in stone divorce courts are so vagina friendly with no fault divorce that you may as well have written it on a napkin in crayon.

They can argue the wife was under duress, that you undervalued your assets, that the agreement is void because you will benefit in the case of divorce, anything like that and you're sunk. Remember the whole Tiger Woods fiasco? He had a prenup and he got fucked just like you would.

Keep your bitch on a tight leash or don't keep a bitch at all.
