What's /k/'s opinion on Acogs? I've always been impressed with the stories of them stopping bullets and surviving fires but I'm guessing since you're average civilian isn't engaging man sized targets at medium to long range to often and the price means there are smarter choices than a Acog. So are they just for show or a practical choice?
I love mine. The miniscule eye relief means it's impossible the have both buis and a comfortable cheek weld. It's crisp and precise enough to plink NRA rams at 550yds.
In all honesty, though, it's a gucci item because it's expensive for what you get. I only bought mine to complete my A4gery

i have one of the cheep chinese airshit ones.
Its not too bad for being 1/10th the price of a real one.
but you wont find me spending 1k on one.
im not going to war and dont care about the overly rugged aspect.

You're welcom

and btw that kinda looks like a knockoff one in your pic.

Sold mine and got an aimpoint.
Im not in the military and I can afford batteries and the tritium gets washed out when aiming from indoors to outdoors during daytime
>>35099839
>the tritium gets washed out when aiming from indoors to outdoors during daytime
Yea, this is why I didn't buy an M21 for my AUG. Incredibly annoying. That said, isn't the light gathering on the ACOG ridiculously sensitive?
>>35099839
>the tritium gets washed out when aiming from indoors to outdoors during daytime
The etched reticle is still there under those circumstances
>>35099856
Yes that's why you always see the tube taped 7/8 by electric tape.
I think they're fine if you want a fixed power optics. The combination of tritium inserts for low-light and fibre optic for daylight conditions was very innovative for its time, but the lack of factory-installed brightness controls for the fibre optic is kind of disappointing. Their newer variable magnification, battery-powered optics seem like a step up.
>>35099883
Right, so how does the reticle fair with spill light into a room or even electric lighting?
>>35100048
Far as I can tell it does fine. I personally never had issues, but I also never left mine untaped.
I have a trijicon that I finally put on a worthy rifle after it sat for a few years.
Needs a good day at the range for be to get used to it.
>>35099777
Bought an ACOG before deployment, in lieu of my issued M68.
Literally no regrets.
>>35099827
>airshit link
99% of people who say ACOG is shit can't afford one
>>35099827
Definite shitty knockoffs even the comments say so. So thanks for the shit link.
>>35099777
Many optics these days are hard as fuck, so that's not unique to the ACOG. look up for freeze and torture test

I had an RMR08G dual illuminated green triangle.
I didn't believe the washout when shooting dark to light meme.
Literally couldn't even sight it in at my Range with a covered bench.
By that same token, my buddy and I sighted in his TA31 just fine, and it remained a dull red glow even in the big lighting contrast of the covered bench. We were also self spotting hits at 100y on a shoot and see. I was impressed for a 4x optic.
I don't really know why the eye relief is so overblown. I have always shot nose to charging handle, and with the ACOG in front of a Griffin Armament KAC 300m ripoff it sat in a perfect position. Trijicon says 1.5" IIRC, but I don't know how they measure this, because I'd say my eye is more like 2.5" (wow big deal -- but actually... that's the difference between perfectly reasonable and actual shit) and I didn't notice being challenged to get a correct head placement.
