Hey guys, /n/ here.

Cyclists face lots of dangers on the road, from loose dogs to road raging cagers.

What's the best way to carry while cycling? Is there such thing as a holster designed strap onto a bike but look like an ordinary bike bag? Thanks.

I will unironically run you over. Seriously. I live in a rural area and by the time you pick you self off the ground and rub the asphalt out of your eyes I'll be too far away for you to read my plates. I've tapped 4 cyclists off their bikes with the bumper of my truck in the past six months. Pretty sure one of them broke their one of their legs too. This isn't a joke.
So I tell you again. Stop riding three abreast on roads with no shoulder. You are the cancer of the road and deserve nothing less.

The problem with this is the same problem with women carrying in a purse: the risk of being separated from your weapon.

There's not really a good solution to this. Best bet is probably tuck some pepper spray into a pocket. If you're in full racing kit, why the fuck are you carrying?

Riding a bike in the road is dangerous not only to other drivers but to yourself, do you have any idea how many retards are texting while driving and drift around? All it takes is one retard two feet into the bike lane to put you in the hospital or the morgue, ride on the fucking sidewalk

I use my bike out in rural areas, usually 2-3 miles back and forth uphill->downhill. I simply do not understand how cyclists think they have the equivalent right of way of a 1 ton hunk of metal going at 45-60 miles per hour. Keep a mirror on your bike, if you see a car coming up, turn your fucking bike towards the shoulder with an extra few feet for good measure. Even if the driver doesn't mean to hit you he'll not be able to stop a heavy fucker of a car on a dime.

That's just stupid to think that any car coming up on you is safe to be near while riding your bicycle. City/suburban dwellers have no common sense.

Cyclist here, I think you're full of shit. I don't know anyone that recommends taking the lane in 60 mph traffic. I've actually never heard of any local ordinance in the USA where that would be legal anyways.
>>
>>35091806

Cool roleplay kid.
>>
>>35091984
Not to mention, depending on the weight of a vehicle, they may literally not be able to stop. None of the bikbabies ITT seem to realise that if something like an overweight tractor trailer, or even a heavy box truck, comes up behind them doing the speed limit their "right of way" doesn't matter, they either move or their 3mph ass is going to become a grease stain.
>>
>>35092033
Whatever helps you sleep at night, bikefag. I hope Henry Ford haunts your dreams.
>>
>>35091984
Reacting wildly to traffic is the best way of getting splattered.

A safe cyclist rides in a straight line, in a predictable manner, and does not react to the traffic behind him. If you feel the need to pass, then wait until it is safe for you to do so. A bicycle is a road legal vehicle and most roads do not have a minimum speed. Just deal with it. And if you're the type who easily angry and entertains the thought of using your car as a weapon, you really aren't the type who should own guns. That's just my opinion.
>>
>>35092011
So it's illegal to go to one farm to another on a bike, up in the upper new york area where neighbors are LITERALLY miles away?
>>
>>35092011
>I don't know anyone that recommends taking the lane in 60 mph traffic.

>wildly to traffic
A cyclist should be near the shoulder ready to turn into the shoulder at all times. Why the fuck are you in the middle of the road? What careless ideas have dulled your will to keep your ass from splattering on the pavement?

Who the fuck cares if a bicycle is a legal road vehicle. Common sense says that a bicycle is not a car. Your job on a bike is to avoid traffic because you're not as fast, as heavy, or as well protected as a person in a car is. Why do people think that just because you're in a bike that you're exempt from preserving yourself from traffic in general?

You're a mouse among a elephants on the road thinking you're invulnerable from getting stomped just because the law says so.

Well, you could. You could also tell them to take a hike because the contents of your bag are none of their business. I'm just pointing out that it's kind of obvious what it likely contains, otherwise it would be a fanny pack (gay af) or a small backpack (much more comfortable). Additionally, I wouldn't want all that compression around my torso while cycling but I tend to exert myself while riding even when I don't need to, instead of going casually.

More lanes don't improve traffic flow. Any civil engineer and urban planner can tell you this, to the consternation of motorists everywhere angrily exclaiming "why don't they add more FUCKING lanes, god DAMN it!" but this is getting increasingly not /k/-related.
>>35092656
I've nothing to learn from doing so. Been there done that, could point out in any video who was at fault (cyclist or motorist) or what went wrong. The most common cause of cyclist fatalities is right hooks, where a car passes on the left and turns right, into the path of the cyclist. There are ways to minimize this risk, but cyclists are rarely the ones at fault. Doesn't stop motorists from exclaiming the idiocy of the cyclist, even though a car turning right from the left lane into another car would provoke outrage at the driver's idiocy and incompetence.

I also call bullshit if you say you'd pull the gun on someone just after being ran you over, like you're super man and can recover quickly from that. If the person stops to help you and you shoot them, you're fucked. If the person drives away, you're still fucked because you just got hit-n-ran in the middle of nowhere.

Engines need to be large and heavy because a care needs to be able to meet the needs of the road at any given time.
The needs of the road are changing and therefore the RPM of the engine is changing.
If the engine doesn't need to meet the needs of the road at any given time, then it can be smaller such that it only needs to meet the average need of the road.
If it only needs to keep the average need of the road, then the RPM can be kept constant and at the most efficient RPM.
This dramatically increases efficiency.

The way to accomplish this is with a small generator that is constantly running at the most efficient rpm and generating the average demand of energy. The generator feeds into a (relatively) small overflow pack of batteries, because the needs of the road are not constant and may sometimes exceed the output of the generator. If the needs of the road exceed the most efficient rpm of the generator for longer than the overflow has capacity for, then the generator can increase the rpm at the cost of efficiency.
The driver may not even necessarily have to wait to recharge if the need of the road is more than statistically predicted, because they could choose to tie rpm to charge level in order to keep a given battery level, in which case the chance of being fucked and having to wait to recharge is dramatically reduced.

Because of the nature of the system, electric motors are necessary. This means that you get the benefits of a linear torque curve, and the opportunity for recuperating energy while braking.

A pure combustion engine is heavy.
A pure electric vehicle is just as heavy with shit range, and way heavier with a reasonable range.
A (properly designed) extended range electric is lighter, has greater range and efficiency than either. It has all the benefits of both, and a minimal of the downsides of each.

Extended range electric is objectively best.

Yes, in a car you can kill a cyclist.

Bikes don't have to ride on the shoulder (and there's too much debris to do so). If you think the ability to kill them with your car changes this then fine.

Also I don't know where you're getting your infograph's from but the bottom picture is literally the correct way to pass a bike because bikes should be on the shoulder. You're not a car, you can't move as fast as a car, you can't impede traffic flow.

Well spandex shorts would make it hard. I wear nylon shell shorts over my spandex an so carry in the waistband at 3 o'clock. I also recommend a Walther pps as the best choice but you definitely want a thin light gun preferably with a shorter handle.

If you're set on going full spandex and jersey, probably small of back in waistband so jersey pockets would hide any printing, idk. I'm kind of a dirty casual.

I ride a bike, I understand that cars can kill me, I give them space. I also do it because the tiny inconvenience for me of moving over seems like the polite thing to do.

I've had idiots go out of their way to hurt me, then justify it with the whole "bike tax and registration, roads are for cars, muh physics, cyclists run red lights" blather we get on talk-back radio.
>>
>>35093895
>treat your bike as a vehicle

This is literally exactly what you have to do if you want to cycle for long without becoming roadkill. It's not exactly a topic that hasn't been thoroughly studied. By being inconspicuous and doing your best because you're too much of a pansy to risk "annoying people" you're doing your best to get splattered. You have to assert your position on the road and force motorists to treat your spot on the road as if just another car were there.

We're not trying to be an inconvenience but these are the best practices to road cycling safety and should be observed.
>>
>>35092361
You're conflating the benefits of being a vehicle (which a cyclist is entitled to) with the responsibilities of a motor vehicle (which a cyclist is of course not constrained by).

Wow, cagers and bikefags in one thread. If you were an intellectual like me, you'd know that both are just a passing fad...
>>
>>35093966
The only vehicle that's even remotely analogous to a bike would be a 40 year old half broken down shitwagon that can't go faster than 20mph on a good day. If you people actually pretended your toys were vehicles you would pretend they were the aforementioned shitwagon and do what what the driver of such a shitwagon should do; get as far over to the right as possible and let all traffic pass at all possibilities as to not impede the flow.

But you DON'T do that. You pretend you're vehicles only when it suites you, because you're selfish cunts who can't comprehend that their toys don't actually belong on the same road as 2 ton metal boxes moving at 55mph no matter what the law says you're "technically" allowed to do.

I've seen people get splattered at stop signs because bikes don't stop for them. Even as an avid cyclist, he should have pulled over. In fact, I'm disappointed he wasn't ticketed. In California, where that took place, you're legally required to pull over and let people pass if there are five or more vehicles behind you.

And, if you do kill the motorist, you'll be charged with murder because you have no proof he was trying to kill you. If there is ever a time you'd need a gun on your bike, you'll be a grease stain on the road before you can even react.
>>
>>35094546
The only reason I can think of to CCW specifically tailored to a bike is if you ride bike paths and those are known for violent hobos. In that case sure, but the best defense against being run over is to not be in the way.

I carry a 1911 when I trail ride, but that's for animals that I can't outrun. Seems like pavement apes are faggots with delusions of grandeur.
>>
>>35094604
That's completely different. I ride on a bike path (right next to my house, because I research these things when I move, like a sane person) to work every day. I carry while on the bike path because it goes from the outskirts of town, right into the downtown area where I work. There's a lot of vagrants wandering around, and I'd prefer my bike stay my bike.
>>
>>35094633
>>35094604
So yeah, there's really only a few select times when you'd need a gun on a bike. When being a selfish asshole riding in the middle of the road isn't one of them.
>>
>>35094633
Exactly. I had two drunk bums try and stab me with a sharpened screw driver when I was a teenager because I wouldn't stop and give them a hug. I don't go on a bike path anymore if I can help it, but if I do I have a gun. Fuck hobos.
>>
>>35094546
>because you have no proof he was trying to kill you.
Yeah, we found a glock that was all scraped up like it was pushed up to 60mph and skid along the road for a bit. Along with powder residue on the hands of this mangled corpse that has tiretracks on it that match your car. Oh, also your windshield is busted.

Well I typed this up after misreading...

>>
>>35094661
Maybe I should. I had a weekend warrior pass me while flipping me off, then start screaming at me and trying to kick my tires as I passed him on an uphill because he gassed himself earlier on in his ride. Guy was a psycho, and I still see him and pass him on that same hill, while he yells at me because he thinks he's the "better rider" every freaking Saturday. I'm a little worried one of these days he's going to try and tackle me off my bike.
>>
>>35094749
practice defensive cycling. Call the police (not through 911) and tell them about him.
If you're lucky the nutter will try to assault them and then your problem is solved.
>>
>>35094764
I'm a very defensive cyclist, and the only reason I pass him is because he's going at a crawl on that uphill. I've probably made a few friends that are in law enforcement at the VA where I work, so I'll start there.

>>
>>35091582
Okay, I don't understand all this bicyclist hate going on in this thread. The only shit bicyclists I have to deal with are junkies doing whatever they fucking want on a bike. Every proper bicyclist I encounter rides the shoulder, goes as close to the speed limit as they can, sticks to arterials, and is generally a decent, law abiding user of the roads. I guess I just got lucky with decent bike riders and most roads have either very little traffic and a broad shoulder that they prefer or two lanes and an additional bike strip.

Regardless, get yourself a super light jacket and a shoulder carry harness. Alternate is to get a bike bag or put a fanny pack or something retarded on your handlebars or frame that you can take with you when you walk away from your bike.

1) Falling water has SERIOUS issues due to the water flowing more or less right through the basement. In fact every room is mouldy

2) FLR was such an arrogant prick he refused to use more iron reinforcement for the balcony concrete. The only reason the house is still standing is because the building contractor (engineer himself) smuggled more reinforcement into the concrete

3) Its the same boring bauhaus cubic - but now its among the trees WEEEW

The guy in question is a small waif of a man, and is incredibly out of shape but has a lot of money (hence the weekend warrior get up) so I'd have no problem holding my own if it came to a fist fight. I'm an exercise physiologist and a CSCS, so I've probably got 65-70 pounds on this guy. What I am worried about, is him lying in wait with my bikes one weakness, a large stick to poke through my spokes. The guys unstable, and I'd rather not end up with a broken collarbone.
