Proving you have never done it. Wasting calories to fuck around with body parts to prove you are a fuckwit is not soldiering. Obeying your fucking standing orders is. Including not mutilating corpses.

Respecting an enemy is part of doing battle. If one does not respect their foe then their foe will in turn not respect them.
Didn't Vietnam become a mess because the US didn't have a strategy more than basically destroying everything? Since there were no strategic point to be taken?

While there were some major problems with the US military of the Vietnam era, what really lost the war was mismanagement of the political side of it.
The decision to massively escalate the US involvement in Vietnam from a few hundred advisors to the entire US military, the extremely poor job (especially compared to WWII) of censorship, propaganda, and extralegal arrests to maintain public support for the war + educate the public as to why the war was necessary, and the decision to publicly put an upper limit on the level of US involvement (ie no additional troops being called up post '68, a fear of causing the apocalypse by calling the bluff of the USSR and China by taking out the North, etc) due to the war being unpopular were some of the big reasons why the war was eventually lost.
