What is the future of guns? The general principle hasn't changed in over a century. Will we be using laser or rail-based guns any time soon?
>>
>>35087157
>laser
Fuck no. Physics don't allow it.

>magnetic propulsion
Extremely unlikely for small arms. Unless some insane breakthroughs are made in high temperatures superconductors and battery/capacitor technology.
>>
Maybe caseless, but even then, brass cartridges have a lot of positives.
If it ain't broke.
>>
>>35087735
Caseless is a dead stupid meme.
>>
>>35087807
Not for the future it isn't
>if we can't pull it off now we will never pull it off
>>
Whatever the fuck they are calling LSAT now.
For the foreseeable future. I think it will really just be materials and optics advances.
>>
>>35087839
Agreed.
>>
>>35087835
There's no tech breakthroughs holding us back from caseless, it's just not that good of an idea
>>
Smart bullets with little fins that swerve towards target
>>
>>35088337
Its not a great idea, for now
>he doesn't want to blast xenomorphs with 10mm caseless in space
>>
>>35087157
We will be using the same guns with more accessories adding capability to them. See the M4A1 SOPMOD and AK-400 as 2 examples.
>>
>>35087157
what a shit (((diversity))) celebrating movie
>>
>>35088492
>Mexicans ruin everything: the film

It was shit though, aside from the visuals.
>>
>>35088515
visuals were good but the movie was a total disasater, SA merc was a hidden gem however and only good thing about the movie
>>
>>35087157
Caseless, and new, more efficient propellants allowing for smaller and lighter cartridges.
>>
>>35087157
Future of firearms is recoil control, weight reduction, along with a larger caliber.

Think the AR in Halo, a rifle that can pelt out 7.62nato with the recoil of a .22lr
>>
I think 5,56 will be outdated soon due to personal armor being more and more common even among sand-people and tree-tribes.

I don't know why other anons disagree with me on that one so often. It's logical conclusion.
>>
>>35087157
>What is the future of guns?
they'll be banned.
>>
>>35089227
>I don't know why other anons disagree with me on that one so often.
Because we'll just issue AP when that issue arises. That'll extend the life of 5.56 effectively indefinitely, which is fine for two reasons. Even lvl4 armor is only single hit rated making its protection effectively moot in the face of a coordinated fire and 5.56 only needs to stay relevant until 6.5/8 CT matures, by which point it will be naturally grandfathered out anyway.
>>
>>35089310
>is only single hit rated
That's ceramics, who are slowly becoming thing of the past. Better and better synthetics are on their way.
>>
>>35088791
I want a P90 in .50AE
Or full auto deagles with recoil reducing stocks

NIJ lvl4 rates 6 hits from M855 and M193 5.56 NATO.
>>
>>35087835
>Not for the future it isn't
Caseless is the past. Brass casings replaced it because they were shit. Cased telescopic rounds are the future.

Everytime I see that pic I get a hard-on. The best part is it's not like it's impossible or overly complicated. I can absolutely seeing this becoming a thing within 2030 or a a few years later.

Elysium in a nutshell

>white people are evil
>poor people are noble
>share the wealth

Sounds like typical hollywood trash to me.
>>
>>35089973
Oy vey goys let in hordes of these violent low iq subhumans that breed like cockroaches.
Only racists wouldn't want these violent 68 iq welfare sucking Somalians in their neighborhood.
>>
>>35089973
The basic plot wasn't even very coherent. Don't the people on the orbital need those medical bays to survive the constant radiation? Why does literally every home have one, instead of them being in a spa or something that you visit once a week? Why are the completely unattainable on Earth? The reason modern medicine is so expensive tends to be the experts and labor involved, not the equipment.

Lastly, what's to keep literally anyone else from going into the control booth and changing the citizenship parameters within minutes of Matt Damon's thing?
>>
>>35087157
The movie's plot itself is meh, but damn those programmable airburst bullets attachments on old guns and the chemrail really activates my nutbladder
>>
>>35089973
Did the magic cure everything beds run off some sort of mineral or energy source that is extremely difficult to acquire? Because they had no reason to withhold that shit from the people left on earth unless it was. Fuck wealth redistribution but those people on the colony seemed to treat the people left on earth like shit for no good reason.
>>
>there will never be a railgun upper for your AR in your lifetime
>>
>>35087157
Focusing on weight reduction, being able to cram higher calibers into smaller packages effectively, and mechanisms to aid aiming and fire control.
>>
>>35088492
The director was from south africa. He lived to see the breadbasket of africa, a virtual paradise, turned into a shithole because of illiterate dirt-eating africans. If it seems like the protagonist is a villain who fucks over an entire civilization for his own selfish needs, that's because he is. The protagonist is a nigger with white skin, and elysium is south africa.
Research shit before you spout shit.

The general principle will remain the same--explosives and bullets. We'll only add to it. Look at how common electro optics are now. It's only going to go further on the electronics side. Better range finding, target acquisition, aim assist, etc.

Agreed. If in 100 years, people will be fighting with old, beat to shit SCARS, AR15's, Glocks AK's and so on but with small enhancements here and there, I'll be ok with that.
