Didn't nothing come from Katrina? The NRA dropped the suit after the story went through the press and they couldn't squeeze any more political capital out of it. The NRA "settled" by agreeing that the government would return all firearms to their owners.

Owners could get their guns back. If they provided evidence/documents that the firearms were theirs. No matter if the firearms were lost, damaged, or "misplaced" which includes older weapons that were inherited and thus had no paperwork with them. There was no compensation. No class action follow-up. If you lost Grandpappy's old lever action you got jack shit.

Then they got SOME mayors to sign a "pledge" to never confiscate firearms during an emergency. Sounds legally binding and assuring. I don't hate the NRA, but it seems like there are a lot of fanboys who don't think they can do wrong. Or what they do is good enough. Fuck that. Gun owners, especially members, deserve a lot more a lot of the time from the NRA. Whose primary concern is often the sale of firearms rather than the right to own one. Maybe they're the biggest advocate we have, but they sure as hell aren't the best.

They actually managed to get the firearms returned to the owners and they put the mayor in prison. Also it wasn't a pledge, it was a court order. Violating a court order leads to consequences. The only piece of evidence to reclaim your firearms was a bill of sale or affadavit with its serial number. And shit can be hard to return if the original owners has long since been scattered and displaced. Firearms in abandoned homes were confiscated too, yah know

Hey now, Hawaii has zero excuse. However, Puerto Rico and other islands were shitted on constitutional rights because not only were we a conquered people, but the US feared revolt from armed communists and/or nationalists. Is that the case now? No, but the excuse is continued with the Reagan's drug war. The number 1 reason why PR laws are mediocre is because
