yes, anticipate having to do that. you can use blued mags with steel baseplates but you will have to take extra care to keep them in working order. steel baseplates will bend and of course any unfinished surfaces will rust

if you have the option, go with a mag like this:

extended baseplates are more difficult to disassemble/reassemble, they aren't worth 2 rounds when you have 18 imo. you should not be dropping sealed mags in the dirt; you need to be able to get into them for cleaning and oiling.

nickel and synthetic finishes work well for pistol mags. rifle mags are less of an issue.

You can easily find them for $10-15 all day every day. You can also sometimes find bulk lots of beat to shit ones for less than $5 a pop, which is decent when you get get about 75% of the lot into working mags and spare parts.

leather stretches with use and leather holsters need to be replaced every few years to prevent the leather from entering the trigger guard and causing a discharge. some designs last longer, but they should be considered a wear item regardless

serpa holsters have a long-running and poor reputation for having the release such that your finger easily slips into the trigger when drawing, they have caused several well documented NDs for this reason. unless you have no other option, i wouldn't recommend them. some ranges and classes outright ban their use.

one option to consider is having a custom kydex OWB holster made or making one yourself. they are cheap and wear well, although there are better options. safariland ALS based holsters are my favorite by far.
