I wouldn't use the word powerful except in comparison to .357, 44 mag, or .45 LC. It's basically an intermediate cartridge before from before there were intermediate cartridges. Regardless it kills deer and pigs dead up to about 150-200 yards with minimal recoil.

If you want more power/range out of lever action you either need to use a fuck-huge brick of a bullet like 45-70 govt or ditch the tube magazine so you can use spitzer bullets in a Savage 99, BLR, or Long Ranger. The first option makes for a brutal brush gun, but is expensive to feed if you don't reload. The second option is expensive upfront compared to a traditional lever action rifle, but the ammo is more reasonably priced. Lead bricks like 45-70 govt also have significant bullet drop at long range that will require practice and experimentation to accommodate for.

Meanwhile 30-30 keeps doing what it's always done, feeding the hordes of Winchester 1894s Marlin 336s that are the bane of deer and pig throughout the land.
