So say I have a gun for home protection I keep in a fingerprint safe beside my nightstand. I have 3 magazines that I keep one full. How often should I swap out the rounds from one mag to the next for optimal spring reliability so the mag springs wear evenly? I've been told that springs shouldn't be left compressed for extended periods. But maybe that's bullshit, I don't know.

What kind of gun?

Never.

>I've been told that springs shouldn't be left compressed for extended periods. But maybe that's bullshit, I don't know.
It is bullshit.
As long as the springs aren't compressed past their limit (they will not be in any decent magazine) there will be no damage.

Load them all. Reload them with range ammo when you go to shoot. Reload with the nasty stuff when you get home. There, the best possible solution in all ways.

any better?

You should rotate out any chambered round to avoid weak or dented primer otherwise your mag springs are fine and can stay loaded
>>
>>35060899
barely. like 5.7 is better than 22wmr barely

You should unload and give your magazine springs a rest every time you set your car up on jacks to keep its suspension fresh.

Keep telling yourself that.

I would change them monthly, and use Wolff extra power springs.
If you get a revolver you will never have to worry if it will feed the second round.

The madman.

The springs bearing a load doesn't matter. You can leave mags loaded for years and they'll run fine. This is a proven fact. It's the compression/decompression cycle that wears out the springs. If your gun is from a quality manufacturer it will take a hell of a lot of loading/unloading to wear the springs. If you're super concerned about it purchase extra mags, range test them a couple times, clean them and load them with your HD ammo, then use your other mags to train. Concerns with faulty magazines and weak springs stem from military users that have been issued beat up mags that have seen a decade or two of training and deployment and feet dragging armorers or unconcerned commanders. If you haven't put several thousand rounds down the pipe, your mags will be fine.
