Alight /K/,

why shouldn't I get a 1911 in 10mm?

I already have I 1911 officers in .45. I really love it except have to change out the recoil spring out damn near every time I take her out to go shoot it. I shoot A LOT of rounds when I go shooting.
>>
>>35059652
You answered it yourself. The 1911 is an outdated caliber made obsolete by the service life of polymer guns
>>
>>35059673
10mm is few and far inbetween. especially for under 1k. and i dont really like glocks
>>
>>35059652
>I really love it except have to change out the recoil spring out damn near every time I take her out to go shoot it.

Umm... why? If you're getting incomplete feeds, then the problem is probably the extractor.
>>
Not OP but ill jump onboard.
Anybody shoot sig 10mm elite?
I was looking at 10mm 1911 but came across the sig.
That is some classy looking sex
>>
>>35059819
no incomplete feeds. the thing eats all the ball ammo I can feed it and doesn't miss a beat. the recoil spring gets worn down and the slide starts beating the fuck out of the frame and really gives a harsh recoil. this happens around 400 or so rnds though it. fresh recoil spring, soft recoil. old recoil spring, beats the fuck out of my hand.
>>
>>35059652
Springs do not wear out like that OP, if they did then submachine guns would not work. Sounds to me like you're a retard with a shitty broken gun

p220? I've shot the .45 variant. SUPER nice, but newer Sigs have issues with magazines, at least from what I've found. but they may need breaking in though.
>>
>>35059894

What brand of recoil spring are you using?
They should never wear out that quickly.
>>
>>35059673

>The 1911 is an outdated caliber

Nice opinion m8
>>
>>35059901
they do. Officer models are notorious for wearing down the recoil springs.

Sub-guns are built with much better AND LONGER springs.

It's the short and rapid travel that does it.
>>
>>35059913
I was using wolf, switched to wilson combat as you do get a little more rounds out of it before they need to be replaced.

again, this is a common issue with Officers model 1911 and is apart of their maintenance.
>>
>>35059908

This guy is a fucking retard.

>hurr 1911 only designed for .45!

Bullshit.
There's nothing intrinsic to the design of a gun that makes it only good for 1 caliber.
It that were the case, Glocks would only work well in 9mm. Same with Sigs, M&Ps, ect

>these high end 1911s I tried in 10mm didn't work out of the box!

High end 1911s like that are fit very tightly to squeeze out all the accuracy they can.
They have a break in period.
>>
>>35059908
what He didn't mention was that the 1911 was designed around BALL .45acp.

1911's in general, are extremely picky on what type of ammo you use. same with magazines. extremely picky on magazines.
>>
>>35059894
>>35059932
>>35059937

You're not supposed to shoot full-weight ammo in Officers models, famalam. Stick to <200gr loads and your springs (and the rest of the gun for that matter) will last for a long time.
>>
>>35059975
what this guy said.
>>
>>35059982
230gr ball is $15 for a box of 50. fuck that, it's cheaper for me to buy 3-4 wilson combat springs for $7 a piece and swapping them out every 400rnds or so.

Jesus fuck dude I've got a 1911 from that same conglomorate and besides replacing the stock recoil spring once, like 2,000 rounds in and because my stock firing pin spring was doing weird things. I haven't needed to do it in the 4,000 rounds since, maybe get a pack of those Wilson polymer recoil buffers? Those have a noticeble drop in felt recoil with one installed. Even with a Commander length you should get 4-5,000 rounds between spring changes

>1911's in general, are extremely picky on what type of ammo you use. same with magazines. extremely picky on magazines.

Feeding problems usually come from the incorrect COMBINATION of ammo and magazine. Light weight or oddly shaped bullets require short, straight feed lips, heavy, round bullets require long tapered feed lips. Most guns work most of the time with most ammo with mid-length, semi-tapered feed lips.

If you have problems with feeding when your ammo and mag combo is on point, then it's probably the extractor is too tight.

My negroid compatriot.

Enjoy your cracked frame.
>>
>>35060044
are you using a government model? it's the short length of the officers that does it. the commanders and government models don't go though springs anywhere near as fast as the officers. It's literally the nature of the beast when dealing with the officers model 1911's

why do you think I change the recoil spring. you only get a crack frame if the spring is bad. Oh, and before you say it, I've got over 5k rounds though it and it's seen nothing but 230gr.
>>
>>35060015
185 gr FMJ costs exactly the same as 230 gr FMJ.
Stop giving Bill Wilson money.

Because there's such a thing as .460 rowland.

Very indicative of the general level of intelligence exhibited by most glock suckers.

get a stainless steel gov length and run 45 super.

>>
>>35060142
not locally. I don't buy ammo in bulk.

I would LOVE to stop giving that hack money. unfortunately, have the parts I'm looking for, he's the only one who has them that's not 20x the cost.
