First rifle.

A single shot .308 for only 300$ using 50 cent steel ammo. I plan to keep it unchanged and only use iron sights.

What am i doing wrong? I have lurked on here for over a year now, wish to own a rifle but am unable to invest much in it for now.

I intend to buy something better after a year or two.
>>
Save your money and buy a WASR
>>
>>35028438
you aren't doing anything wrong. learn to shoot accurately with your inherent ammunition limitation. after you get gud, get another rifle.
>>
>>35028438
Buy .22 instead and learn to shoot on it?
>>
>>35028445
Not sure what that is or if i can even get it in my country. My options are very limited here and my budget is small for this year.

>>35028469
>>35028474
Not comparing .22 to air rifles but i am already really good with iron sights up to 35yards.

And while .22 ammo is cheap i would shoot cheap with a single shot .308 and probably feel as content.

I mostly want to feel the recoil of a firearm and .22 just won't do that for me.
>>
>>35028474
Once again .22lr is a real firearm but i can't shoot outside ranges in my country so i use air rifles to plink.

I went through over 10.000 pellet "rounds" in a couple years. Now i want a powerful experience not a light bang and light recoil if it makes sense.
>>
>>35028438
I don't think this is a good rifle for target practice as it's more of a hunting rifle, if you were interested in milsurp you could probably find an old bolt action rifle for under $300 which will also teach you the fundamentals of long range marksmanship
>>
>>35028577
Not in my country :C

The gun market is tiny here.
>>
What country is it?
>>
>>35028590

he already has practiced marksmanship with an air rifle
>>
>>35029364
Yeah but only up to around 30yards. I can easily hit beer cans from that distance.

So i guess my iron sights marksmanship is decent.
>>
>>35028438

It's functional but you're buying it for looks over a bolt gun in the price range. First rifle would be better as a 22 or, not because "lol recoil ull hurt urself" but because you can safely shoot it more often in more places, it's cheaper to feed and purchase, and it won't sit around unused after you get something else.

What you picked is aesthetic and mostly practical though for the price. If you want a large caliber gun maybe consider looking for used fudd looking rifles on armslist because they'll be much cheaper than what you find in a shop not including the no tax and most fudd guns have less than a hundred rounds through them for deer season

I'm not those anons but I understand, didn't read that when I posted
>>35029582

Since you have some experience I'm not sure how much this will help but you may find something useful. There's an error in the sighting in range, start at 20 yards.
>>
>>35029596
Fuck off
>>
>>35028586
what country anon?
down here there's also not much to go around, but i make do
i bought my first rifle recenty, also in .308.
it's a Ruger brand Gunsite Scout rifle, but i haven't shot it yet
>>

No, you, buttlicker.
>>

P-please i would rather not tell to not become a well known poster.

Bolt action .308's are around 800$ here and i am saving money for a new car so my budget is 400$
>>
>>35029582
>but because you can safely shoot it more often in more places,

I only have a closed range "nearby"...
I would end up only shooting once a month since it is 1hour drive away.
Not sure if they would let me shoot big bore rifle there

If you're actually looking for a rifle at that price range, you can literally find an older Remington 742 (semi-auto 30-06 hunting rifle) for ~$300-500. They come standard with 4-rd mags, so they're known as "the poor man's BAR". 10 round mags are readily available, but are expensive, so try to find one that sells with extra mags.

There are hardly ever any rifles around for under $200 that aren't 22s.

Based on what Ive read about your situation I say do it. It'll last you forever.

Nothing dude, considering the situation in your country and your monetary situation a single shot .308 is just fine. People here will shit on single shot rifles because they're not highspeed lowdrag tactical operating platforms or whatever but if you just want to shoot your gun and have a good time you did fine. Enjoy it Yurofriend
>>
>>35028758
You can tell us, I'm a filthy poor American who believes in iron sights too and am too faithful to switch, if you tell us It will help us narrow down your choices for you. But be prepared to spend a little bit more for iron sights.
>>
I don't have anything to say to OP but I gotta say that I am super disgusted by the Calladoody videogame-ass "semiauto>manual action>single shot" attitude people have expressed ITT. Life isn't an RPG videogame you faggots. A single shot Ruger No.1 is a better rifle than 99% of your shitty Palmetto ARs and Century hackjob AKs.
>>
>>35030720
The gun markert in my country is tiny so i cant find any gun like that.
>>35030817
Stop assuming things!
>>35030949
Are iron sights not similar on real rifles? I feel like i could hold a real firearm steady and know how to look through the sights.
>>35030995
Thanks man but it will still take me some time to get what i want as it takes some paperwork.

I like the simplicity of break action rifles so i would like to own one even if i was not looking for a cheap rifle.
>>
>>35031233
You know be glad that you are not forced to spend several hundred $ on a gun license in a country where several hundred $ is at least half of your monthy wage.

Be glad that you have a wide choice of firearms that you can purchase on the spot at a cheaper price than i do.

And then think about how i feel when a lucky cunt like yourself shits on me and mocks me for my inexperience

>What am I doing wrong?
Starting with a centerfire instead of a rimfire.

A lightweight .308 single-shot rifle is going to beat you black and blue and you're going to pick up a flinch that'll take you years to get rid of.

That $300 could have gotten you a nice .22 bolt gun to learn the fundamentals, and a shitload of ammo to start with.
>>
>>35031368
He already has fundys. You can't be on 22 forever you gotta make the jump at some point anon

1. Spring powered Air rifles have a slight recoil
2. In .17 cal 10grain pellet versions they reach the speed of 1000 feet per second
3. Such air rifles can be used for hunting rabbits
>>
>>35031471
Air rifles even come in .22 pellet which is basically just the bullet part of a .22

Are you memeing or a soccer mom? The addition of recoil doesn't make that much difference functionally. In the case of a single shot as OP describes, it's basically just a superficial, cosmetic difference. It doesn't take a shitload of practice to learn to hold the rifle against your shoulder properly.

T. Learned on a nugget with a steel butt plate as a 14 year old skellington.

Go for it OP. .22s are cool to learn on too, mostly for cheap ammo and ease of plinking, but there's nothing wrong with starting with a single shot .308. Besides, there's something sexy about breach loading.
>>
>>35032309
So you're saying starting on an airgun/22 is for babies?
>>
>>35032325
Airguns and .22s are fun as fuck, but it's not as if only having experience with a pellet gun will render a .302 beach opaque alien machinery to you. If you aren't literally six, you probably won't have any difficulty picking one up with no experience whatsoever and figuring out how to use it safely and effectively with a little googling on stance. The biggest thing .22s have going for them is checked cheap and plentiful angle, and offering a good semi auto first gun. If OP was nervous about recoil I'd direct him to a .22 over his pic, but barring that it's just whichever you prefer/think is more fun
>>
>>35032365
So you're acting I shouldn't buy an air rifle
>>
>>35032325
.22lr is much more powerful than a .22air rifle it is a superior choice and i would love to own one rifle chambered in.22lr some day.

But if i buy a .22lr i am forced to wait for a larger caliber rifle until late 2018 and waiting 12more months will be killing me.
>>
>>35032476
It's same shit
