A friend of mine lives in the mountains of Yamanashi Prefecture, and hunts wild boar with a bow there all the time (he's gotten quite good at making wild boar nabe). I live in Japan and its actually surprisingly totally possible for someone who is merely a resident to get a license for firearms. You don't need to be Japanese at all. I'm on the train about to get off so I don't have time to find it again but google "how to get a gun license in Japan" and some British guy made an excellent guide. There are just a few things to consider...

You can only have shotguns until after 10 years with the license when you can then apply for a rifle
You'll need a safe
You have to periodically go visit gun owner meetups to get stamps on your license in order to keep it (actually sounds cool as fuck imo)
And hunting boars here is what some people do, they're delicious btw.

So only if you can spare maybe around 800 dollars to get a license and a couple grand on some fudd level shotgun aaaasnd you are going to live here for more than just a couple years ya go for it. I dont have a license though because Japan = Hella safe and I am workkng on going debt free for the next year.

I'd say the cities are the most accepting, although my only proof of this was it was in the cities where girls were willing to Fuck.
