QTDNDTOT general

Is it true that Russian .308 is different than American one? This single shot rifle is supposedly only accurate with Russian steel .308 according to the fudd forums in my country.

Is it stupid to not use a scope on a high powered rifle like .308? Is the recoil hard to handle for a weak person?
>>
>>35021380
That's absolutely ridiculous, unless they're just incorrectly thinking 7.62x39mm or 7.62x54r is just a Russian equivalent of .308, which might be the case.
>>
It's different in the sense that it's fucking garbage.

How do you fuckers cope after having real fucked up dreams you hated having?
Like, not quite on the level of nightmare, but it upsets you on a moral level and makes you question who you are.

I had a dream where I was in a public restroom when three niggers busted the door down, all with their dicks in a different hole of a black prostitute. They were pissing in her ass and cunt and she was pissing all over them. They brought her to the side of the bathroom, and I forget if I joined in or not but I woke up after.
I don't like seeing blacks in porn at all and I hate water sports. I dunno why I would have this dream and it's eating at me.

How carryable is a 6 inch revolver for CC?

Is it doable or just too big/slow without rocking a shoulder holster like Dirty Harry?
>>
>>35026062
My advice to you, buy a rifle case. The only time that air gun comes out is when it's in that case and a short walk to the car. Colleges are not gun friendly places. You may have that "I don't care" attitude now, but trust me years down the line you'll look back and cringe so hard you'll pull a muscle. You should set yourself up for success, not do stupid shit you know is going to cause you grief
>>
>>35028285
It'd DOABLE, just not really doable WELL. If you want a 6" revolver down your pants because that's the only way you can fend off the gangs of crazed rapists, get a decent IWB holster, a good belt, and a windbreaker or something to hide it.
I'd recommend something designed for CC, though. You can get an EAA snubbie for pretty cheap, not the best revolver out there, but it'll run reliably.

is that a challenge? suicide by arrow? also yeah arrow is vaguely interesting but never caught me. when i was young a friend was using a compound bow and the arrow exploded and sent shards into his arm and wrist? the blood froze on the concrete in 3 layers, surface, inner goo and external scab, neat as fuck. you all know this but we didnt: dont reshoot arrows at hard targets, and if you do, use that leather hand thingy. if i was gonna bp tho, the caps, powder, all that has to be outside of my reach. i REALLY want a functionally useless gun to play on my desk, but, cant shoot, wont shoot, has to be functionally safe. or just dont own one and focus on airsoft

I need to know what the best Ruger P-Series handgun is.
My lgs has a P89, P94 and P95 in like new condition for $300 each. I am leaning towards the P89 because it was designed for the DoD XM10 Pistol Trials selection process and seems overbuilt for 9mm.

Any input would help

Looking for a drop-in replacement open rear sight to fit the factory dovetail on a 10/22. Looking for something without the distracting white markings and steps up and down that the factory 10/22 rear sight has, with a more generous notch and maybe a square notch as opposed to the microscopic U-shaped notch of the nearly useless factory rear.

Not looking for peep sights. Due to retinal damage in my right eye I can't use aperture sights. I've heard about Tech-Sights and I'm sure they're great but I can't use them, at least not right-handed.

Does anyone know of something that'll drop in and fit the factory dovetail? Thanks.

Has anyone worked with an optometrist, requesting a special prescription for eyeglasses or even contact lenses for shooting?

My eyesight is bad enough--severe nearsightedness, 20/140+ (20/200 is legally blind in the state where I live, to give you some idea)--that with eyeglasses, while I can focus more or less clearly through the central part of the lens, there is severe distortion of images at the upper inner corner of each lens. I believe the term is "barrel distortion." It's pretty bad and I can't see the sights at all.

I like to think I have some knowledge of how to shoot--I shot the Army pistol qual course clean for an Expert badge the first time, thirty for with no alibis and no second shots needed. I can hold a pistol or revolver in such a way that I'm looking at it through the center of the lens, no problem. But with long guns I'm definitely starting to struggle. I can't even use a red dot sight on a long gun--all I see through the tube at that angle is a glowing red smear that's as big as my thumb.

Can an optometrist help? Has anyone tried this kind of thing? Can I get contact lenses, maybe, so I won't be looking through an eyeglass lens at a steep angle while trying to look at the front sight?

Does anyone have any personal experience with this? Thanks.

An optometrist can certainly help, I don't have personal experience but I caregive for a guy who has some 15 different pairs of glasses for running, swimming, driving, biking, reading, reading at the computer, everyday use, everyday use work use (when he wasn't an invalid). An eye doc can make your lenses with certain focal length if you are that badly eyed, I'd do some googling to see what specific information you might need but I imagine any optometrist would have an idea how to help get you lenses more designed for a shooting range, hell if they give you the 'huh' look, try and see about getting glasses optimized for something like golf or baseball, that should clear up any confusion if they aren't familiar with what kind of sight you need for a range

The 89 is the best and most durable of them. It's an improved P85.

>>35030528
Doesn't the 95 have plastic frame rails?

$300 is way the fuck too much for any of them, though. $225-$250 is market price for used P-series 9mms on Gunbroker, unless it comes with a shitload of magazines.

I personally wouldn't say no to a used P85 in good shape. A guy I knew in college had one and we spent a lot of Saturday afternoons at the range together dumping cheap gun-show reloads through it. It was fun enough that I have fond memories of the gun itself despite the fact that I hate the DA/SA operating system and slide-mounted safeties, and it had a DA trigger pull like pulling an angry wildcat off a tin roof by his tail.

It would just be a range toy for me and the price would have to be right.
>>

You're going to need a shoulder holster for something like that
>>
>>35028285
It isn't, unless by "CC" you mean you want the whole world to notice you walking by with an enormous gun-shaped object bulging through your coat.

You might possibly get away with some kind of IWB holster for it--if and only if you don't need to sit down, drive, etc.

6" of barrel is an awful lot to pull out in a hurry. It just keeps coming and coming and coming.
>>
>>35032027
Probably steel jacketed bullet loaded in a copper washed steel case.

Steel cored bullets usually have a copper jacket and a thin layer of lead between the bullet and the jacket. The steel cored bullet is weakly but noticeably attracted to a magnet. A bullet that's strongly attracted to a magnet is normally steel jacketed, not steel cored.

Chinese steel cases may be Berdan primed rather than boxer primed, and I would anticipate great difficulty in reloading them. It isn't impossible but it's a LOT of work, if you can even get Berdan primers the right size.

I've even heard of people getting Boxer primers that are a little undersize, very carefully removing the little wire anvil from within the primer, and gluing the primer into the oversize primer pocket with Krazy Glue. It's not a practice I would recommend but it's been done.

Noguns here, when you close a revolver up after loading, can it still fire if you haven't manually turned the cylinder so that one of it's notches is caught by the cylinder stop? I'd imagine it'd work just fine, which leads me to my second question- does the shorter distance the cylinder has to turn in that case noticeably lighten the trigger?
>>
>>35033621
Sounds like it's the factory oil to keep it from rusting while it's stored waiting for someone to buy it.

You should probably wipe it off then lubricate the parts that need it, in the places that need it:

I recently got a Ruger 10/22 Takedown, one of the 16" versions with the threaded muzzle and the flash suppressor.

After I put about a thousand rounds through it, I noticed the flash suppressor had loosened enough that I could remove and replace it by hand.

Do I need to ask a gunsmith to put a crush washer in there to hold it in place and keep it from unthreading itself, or would /k/ recommend one of those high temperature silicone O-rings put on the shoulder at the rear of the threads and the flash suppressor threaded up against it then tightened down? How much force should I apply? I don't want to damage it.

000 or 0000 steel wool and CLP. When you think you're down to bare metal look at it closely. If you're satisfied you've gotten all the rust off it, clean the oil and rust residue off with brake cleaner or carburetor cleaner. The next step is cold blue and for that to work right and look right the metal has to be as close to absolutely, perfectly clean, dry, and oil-free as you can get.

Get some cold blue--Birchwood Casey sells cold blue in a felt-tip marker type unit I've found very handy--and try to even it up. The first few coats will look spotty and blotchy, but keep at it. After a while you may notice that a fresh coat of cold blue will seem to leave a yellowish residue on the metal when it dries, or at least it did for me. I left that on for 24 hours then cleaned it off with rubbing alcohol and cleaning patches, and applied another coat.

I bought a 10/22 a few years back that had a factory blued finish that looked like drops of water had dried on it, patchy and spotty with light and dark patches. I put a lot of coats of cold blue on it to even it out. Just remember you're trying to make the light spots darker and with luck and a little work you can make it look a lot better. Now the finish on the barrel of mine looks the way it should, deep rich even polished black.

Sometimes I think I should have just put black BBQ grill paint on it to match the paint Ruger puts on the receiver and baked it in the oven, but it sounds like you like the blue finish and want to make it look pretty again.

Why don't all S&W revolvers allow barrel swapping like Dan Wesson's? I understand the obvious answer is cost, but it seems that all you need to add is a threaded barrel, looks simple enough to me. Is it just so S&W can Jew people into buying more guns?
>>
>>35037304
Because it would require a complete redesign of the frame, and that would cost money.

Because Dan Wesson patented their new barrel system.

Because the Dan Wesson revolvers always had poor quality control and serious problems with things like parts fit and parts breakage, and claiming "now new and improved with Dan Wesson style swappable barrel technology" isn't going to impress knowledgeable people who know about the very serious negative baggage that is attached to that brand name.

Because by the time Dan Wesson's patents expired and it became possible to copy their stuff without paying a licensing fee, the revolver market was in serious decline. S&W's revolver line, other than, maybe, their J-frame snubbies, which are still a modestly popular choice for the tiny niche application of CCW, are 100% collectors' items and range toys, not serious tools for any purpose, and viewed by most in the 21st Century as obsolete technology.

I get ideas too, like everyone, for things like--well, right now, I'm thinking about a muzzle brake incorporating a spiral baffle to expose the propellant gases to a larger surface area and absorb more kinetic energy from them, but I wouldn't know even how to begin making such a thing.
>>
>>35040212

>>
>>35041415
Maybe so--but I keep hearing on various forums, "oh, it's easy to bend up an AK receiver." "Oh, it's really simple to finish an 80% AR receiver."

Yes, it's really simple--if you're a retired tool & die maker with a two-car garage full of arc welders and milling machines and a lifetime's experience with them.

The reader who lives in an apartment, whose tools are limited to a gun cleaning kit from which the jag got lost, and a set of allen keys, plus a hammer and a slightly bent Phillips screwdriver, maybe this stuff isn't quite so simple and maybe finishing an 80% receiver isn't quite so easy. There is one way to do it right and a million to do it wrong, and I suspect one of the reasons BATFE lets them sell these kits at all is that more of them end up as expensive paperweights and doorstops than actually become usable firearms.
