Picture it: a USMC rifle company of Comanche warriors in the mountains of Afghanistan. A Naval Reserve battalion of Mohawk Seabees (Mohawks are famous as iron workers, of all things). A US Army training battalion of Pueblo Indians teaching desert warfare and survival. A USAF Combat Search and Rescue unit made up of Chinooks so Chinooks can fly Chinooks.

The Dawes Rolls made up in the 1890s (which include Cherokees) have enrolled tribal members in their records with ridiculously small portions of Indian blood. All of their descendants are eligible for membership. Meanwhile, you had Cherokee full bloods outside of Indian Territory, particularly in Texas and Arkansas, who said "fuck the government" and never got their names on the rolls. Their descendants are not eligible. We have a situation where someone with 1/128th Indian blood can be a "real" card carrying Cherokee whereas a guy one state over with very little white blood is completely ineligible because his ancestors decided that a federal roll call didn't mean shit.
