I'm thinking about buying 1894 Krag for $450. It seems to be in really good condition, beautiful gun. The guy at the gun store doesn't seem to know much about it. What are thoughts? Is it worth it, and what should I be looking out for with these rifles?
My only concern is cost and availability of ammo, but it gives me the excuse to invest in reloading equipment.

If it's not sporterized then $450 is a fantastic price for a Model 1898 Springfield. Rifle or carbine?
If it's a US gun, then it should have the best looking finish of any US service rifle you have ever seen... unless buba has sanded it down in the past.
the sling mounts tend to freeze in place.
extremely smooth bolt, would like to say because of the limited amount of locking surface (no idea why they are).
fun as fuck to reload.

>Infantry rifle
>Springfield armory markings
>Bluing is good
>Rifling is in excellent condition
Didn't get the serial number to date it

The bolt was amazing! I absolutely fell in love with fit and finish and the machining quality.

>Bluing is good
Just a heads up; the receiver was oil-blacked rather than blued when it left the factory, so if the action is blued then it's been refinished. Still, for $450 I'd jump on it.

How do I tell the difference?
But it's definitely original finish. Has a nice uniform patina to it, but no rust, scratches or pitting.

It depends on what caliber the rifle is chambered for.
It's either .30-40Krag or there are some Krags that are chambered in 6.5x55mm Swedish.
The 6.5x55mm Krags are some of the "holy grail" rifles of the milsurp market.

Fuck yes a dedicated krag threade. Pic related, my 1898

Nice, love the bayonet!
>>35007515
Is that a Sten Mk II?
>>35007515
If it's unmodified then buy the shit out of it for that price. It's a nice collector piece and a very nice shooting rifle. They had the old saying "as smooth as a Krag" for a reason.

Triple double. Only pic I have of my Krag to celebrate the get.
>>35007515
Dude go get it nao
Also you can sing the lyrics to that racist "civilize 'em with a Krag" song while you shoot it.
>>35007515
Don't listen to these fags, OP. They're just trying to trick you out of your hard earned money. $450 is an incredibly shitty asking price for a Krag. In fact, it borders on fraud. I tell you what I'll do for you: you go ahead and tell me where you saw this "deal" and I'll go on over there with my angry, Jew lawyer and tear them a new one. Don't worry, I won't charge you a dime. And no need to thank me.

Oy vey!
Alright /k/, $450. How did I do?
>>35012170
From what I can see, that was a very, very good price for a Krag. What caliber is it?
>>35012170
Fucking nice. I spent 600 for mine and it's rougher, was a few years ago.
Enjoy it it's a fun shooter.
>>35012170
It's in original military trim; most got sporterized. You did great.
>>35012207
It's in 30-40
>>35012214
And yeah, can't wait to shoot it. The action is extremely smooth. Everything is feeding and ejecting well. Just have to clean it up a little. Unfortunately the rain refuses let up, so I can't take it outside to shoot it today.

>>35012170
You did well.

Kek! Nope, Florida. The humidity down here is hell on old guns. It's the kind of weather that fogs up a gun the second you walk out the door inside and out. So, I'll have to wait until dawn when it's cooler out.
