What will the Australian army use after the ef88 and f88?
Also just found out adf doesn't really use the 5.56x45 nato
We use our own custom projectile.

You'd think that but i have a feeling it'll be another weird fucking rifle. For some reason after the f88 and ef88 came into being with the adf alot of push back from the commandos and SASR wanted the m4 to take over. Saying that "thw f88 and ef88 are self defence rifles not combat rifles which is what the adf riflemen needs"
>>

what the hell is that supposed to even mean. EF88/F90 looks like good development process. Lighter weight, better integrating GL, replaceable optics, railz. What's the AR better at besides jamming?

The Australian Army adopted the M16A1 in the 80's but Colt refused to sell the manufacturing rights. So they adopted a gun from a company that would.

You are a retard.
>>
>>35007370
nah hes right. small arms are irrelevant to modern warfare, any western army could be armed with 10/22s and it wouldn't affect their ability to perform because its artillery, CAS and a strong logistical base that do the heavy lifting.
>>
>>35007370

Air strikes, artillery, strategic maneuverability, and armored vehicles win battles. Some high school drop out with a rifle is just a warm body to sit in a bunker and act as a cop.

Talking to vets doesn't mean shit. The vets I've met don't know much more about guns other than how to operate them. The AUG has proven track record as a reliable firearm, and the F88 is an improved AUG. Just because some grunts from a noguns country want M4's so they can be 1337 op8rs like the Americans doesn't mean it's a bad gun. You do realize that the same part of the f88 that's plastic is plastic on a lot of other guns right? The SCAR has plastic furniture and a plastic lower. The M4 has plastic furniture and there are plastic lowers for it that work just fine. Unless you plan to beat a few dozen people to death with your gun it isn't an issue.

Ef88 vs M4?

Australia went with the f88 because colt wouldn't give them the rights to manufacture their weapons. Colt did all Austyers are manufactured in Aus and like most of the ADF they will never see action so atleast They can be of some use and contribute to the Australian economy.

Both the ef88 and the M4 have about the same fire rate and effective range (300m). But so do pretty much all modern 556 rifles. The reasons that the SF use m4s are; the ef88 is heavy (3.6kgs vs 2.3kgs), the position of the magazine makes reloads awkward (why they put the fast release latch on the ef88 but this cannot be fixed on a bullpup), in the case of a jam stripping is awkward. Also remember that the SF didn't ditch the ef88, they ditched the original f88 which is much worse than the ef88.
>>
>>35007380
No, they really are and are cheap for long term, sustainable warfare. Stuff like CAS, artillery, drones and air power costs big money and its a limited amount. You can have a lot, but over time it will run out eventually, bullets and rifles are cheap and if you have to make-do by sneaking into Muhammad's house and murdering everyone in it with a rifle, it's still the same effect as dropping $1000's of HE ordinance and 10's of $1000's in flight time.
Plus, at the end of the day, no one got shot or blown up that didn't deserve it and have your boot on someone's throat is a pretty good confirmation of a kill. There's no 'maybe' we got him or anything else to factor in, with a rifle you either get him or you didn't.

Things with the F88 at the time are mostly addressed with the F90. We preferred the M4 as it was light, decently compact, magazine is free fall for faster reloads, could mount up decent optics/lasers/rangefinders/launchers/grips etc with minimum of fuss and the adjustable stock was very useful for wearing armour to have a comfortable sight radius. The F90 did 'most' of that with a couple of exceptions- the stock and lack of free-fall mags.
Aside from that, the F88 was a really easy gun to teach people to shoot, when we're training people we don't run on the assumption they've ever used anything more offensive than bad language. So when they pick it up and a very short time later you can have any fucking muppet hitting man sized targets at 2-300m = success.
The M4 as a weapon is better as a 'shooters rifle', meaning if you have a lot of trigger time on one, you will hit more accurately and more consistently. They're also very good on full auto, but not to the extent that I think the AR platform is really any better than the 88's, the 88's trigger takes a little more to master with the 2nd stage, but can be very effective when you've got someone experienced on it able to adapt from precision shooting to suppressive fire on a heartbeat.

completely untrue. Receiver slides nicely out of the butt stock by pushing the retaining block through the stock. It's very fast and smooth. Removing the barrel is very fast too.

Reloads are not awkward at all, it's simply what you train on. If you've done the IA drills on the steyre 1000 times like any Aussie soldier your reloads wont feel awkward at all.

The only downside to the F88 IMO is the extra weight (especially with extra CES attached) and the need to move your hand from the magazine to release the cocking handle rather than pressing a bolt release button.
