Like others have said, it's just comical and fun to do. Makes some people die a little inside while others laugh until they get a headache. It's also surprisingly fun to shoot because of how absurd the whole thing is.

Flintlocks can actually be less of a hassle to deal with if you know what you're doing. I'd much rather carry around a brass dispenser of FFFF powder than a tin full of caps and a capper tool. Only problem with flintlock is that you absolutely need black powder for the flash pan—no substitutes! CVA pistol kits are still around here and there and make for good beginner black powder guns. Traditions brand pistols are a noticeable bit better in quality, but you can make a CVA feel better than a Traditions gun if you take your time while making it. A basic bitch kit will include an unfinished stock, unfinished barrel, and all other hardware you need to finish the gun. Buy some assorted sandpaper alongside your kit.
