posted in the qdot thread or whatever but got no (You)'s for obvious reasons, so trying again:

I just bought a G19 and I have a maintenance question. I like to handle my gun a lot; if I don't touch the metal parts (slide, slide release, etc), do I still need to wipe down with rem oil before putting it away? Like I'm pretty sure my sweaty hands won't rust a polymer frame, but why guess when you can ask, right?

>HK says its made with the same quality as the P30

I would take their word for it and this is coming from people who have a heavy bias against fully tensioned striker pistols that have came out this past few years.

The MK23, USP, HK45, P2000, P30 are all proven and high quality pistols. The only thing /k/ knows about the VP9 is that it's noticeably cheaper than the rest of HK's product line and that's because of the cost involved in making a striker fired pistol compared to a more expensive to make gun like a hammer fired pistol.

/k/ doesn't know shit. This is the place where people badmouth Glock, HK and Beretta but are quick to point out that Bersa makes a good gun.

If you're really questioning the quality of the VP9, ask some people like Darryl Bolke or Wayne Dobbs on what they think of the gun. They have more trigger time on HK pistols than anyone on this board and they approve of it.

I had a Glock 17 that I wiped down maybe twice in a full year. I handled it constantly, shot about a thousand rounds out of it, and dryfired it easily another thousand times.

I dragged it through a few abandoned mines and left it in some damp laundry for a week. Never had a problem with corrosion of any part of the gun. Even when there was corrosion on the ammo.

Don't use it as an excuse not to take care of it, but it can handle it.

I'll probably pick up a G19 at some point in the future to rice out.

>>
>>34978222
They're almost revolver tier levels of simple to operate, are reliable as fuck, fairly inexpensive, and have a massive aftermarket.

They don't interest me too much personally, but in all honesty if I could only have one gun for the rest of my life there's a very strong possibility it would be a Glock.
>>
>>34978222
the fact that Glock were willing to bite the cost to make damn sure every army and police department they could used their guns. just like the AK and AR, when people are damn near throwing the damn thing at you, you use it and don't go away from it unless a) you get something else thrown at you even cheaper and works about as well or b) something completely reinvents the market segment and you have to upgrade to stay relevant.

Then it becomes a matter of hey look at all these people using this gun, they all can't be wrong.

Good marketing during the 1980s. Managed to secure a fuckton of police contracts during the 1990s. Rappers also made it popular among through songs and music videos. Then, there was the movie US Marshalls, where Tommy Lee Jones says: Get rid of that sissy nickel-plated gun and get a Glock. Civilians drank the police/gangster Kool-Aid and Glock became the most widespread handgun around. It's not the best gun ever made, but it gets the job done, so no point in police forces to exchange it for something new but only marginally better (it's the same thing with the M4A1).

I'm not really thrilled about Gen5. The finger grooves give my average hands and amazing purchase. I don't shoot lead and the supposed accuracy improvements of the GMB seem lost on someone that isn't shooting a pistol off a bench rest. I'd rather have a theee pin than a two pin gram as far as durability is concerned, but I have yet to see how the RSA/Barrel assembly was altered and if the new two pin system is superior to the old three pin, or if this is just a cost saving measure due to the 9mm chamberings. As for the new mags, mag well, and beveled slide, I'm ambivalent.

The only thing I like about it is the new finish, which is Gen5 exclusive for now.

Don't know if anyone else has similar sentiments, but I just don't see a point in getting a Gen5 when I could get a Gen4, which IMO was more of an improvement over the Gen3 than the Gen5 seems to be of the Gen4.

>What makes Glocks popular
Allow me to elaborate since you've had about a dozen replies from idiots who didn't tell you this. Glocks are extremely easy to self maintain and upgrade, you need next to know mechanical knowledge nor special tools past a small punch. There is a HUGE amount of aftermarket parts, and most parts are relatively cost effective if something does go wrong, and needs replacing or upgrading. This is the real reason Glocks are so popular, along with fuddlore and reliability. You can dump less than $800 in a USPSA setup and still be very competitive with high dollar 1911s. Everything before this is just idiots regurgitating shit they've read on here
>>
>>34978750
You're an idiot

Just a heads up for you autists that don't leave the computer this fanboyism shit we have on here with Xfags vs Yfags doesn't exist in the real world, actual shooting community. Most people own variety of mfgs, if they own HK chances are they also have a Glock or Sig. This stupid 13 year old fanoboy shit is from /v/ and all their virgin angst. Everything is like some petty fucking competition. The fanboy shit and all the retarded memes are Chan culture. Thanks, God Bless, and have a great day

baseless, and unsubstantiated claims. the hallmark of fuddy 1911 guys.
>>
>>34978222
Your average glock cost about 128$ to make as of the late 1990s. they certainly cost a bit more to make now but they're most likely still 150-170$ guns to make. In a nutshell glocks are so popular because of their truly impressive marketing/business strategy.

First they started by sucking the dicks of every LEO organisation who'd let them get their foot in the door, then they showed that their products could compete reliability wise with just about any steel duty gun of the time. All at a price point significantly lower than steel guns.

This results in a wave of departments switching to glocks while glock is still making a reasonable profit "only" selling these guns for ~300-350$ a pop in larger deals. Then glock capitalizes on the sudden ubiquity of their design among LEOs and other serious users to make over their image into that of the end all be all hardcore duty gun, which gets the civvy market all moist because most people are LARPers of one degree or another.

Now the price of the civvy glock continually rises(oftentimes 600-650 on the shelf, ~400 something for wholesale IIRC) allowing them to both increase profit margins and continually subsidize LEO deals to out compete more expensive designs.

Problem is people have started to catch on and try to beat glock at their own game, just look at the MHS hullabaloo. Everybody is butthurt that sig out glocked the glock while somehow managing to actually listen to what their buyer wanted instead of trying to push off their own preconceived ideas of perfection on them.

Didn't realize toooldtobehere is too old to have learned to read properly in school also. Although i was wrong about the in every category thing, misread the 3 as an 8.

So, glock had 33% more stoppages but 40% fewer parts breakages.

Glock owner here. I don't see why people care about what pistol(s) someone else use.. Just get something that's right for you and that you feel is reliable. After all, it's YOU that need to land shots where they need to be, not everyone else.

My glock 19 is the worse performing gun I own. I wanna chuck it into the woods every time I shoot it.

You seem real mad.

I spent a day checking out some nifty old mines and had a beer when I got back to where I parked because it was good? Does that trigger you? Or do you just not like Corona so you're upset someone likes something you don't?

Have you been outside recently anon? We're worried about you.

You sound mad that hk's blow up with the same frequency as glocks. The only reason there are less pictures is that few people buy hk's compared to glocks.

Kinda like putting a g19 in a dryer for 2-5yrs straight with a loaded magazine in it and complaining the it malfunctions desu senpai.

service M9s are notorious for having bad mags, being shot to shit, and having worn springs
